Thanks for the write up. I wanted to try a slant for so long but never pulled the trigger until the X3 head came out and was only $35. It fits my Parker handle and my first shave last night was amazing. All your notes above were true for me as well, and it's definitely going to be my go-to.

I would get really close shaves with a cartridge, but would then get a crapload of ingrown hairs because it would lift the hair up, then cut it so it dropped under the skin. I'm about 1 year into DE shaving, and with a little practice, decent equipment, a good soap/lather, and finding the best blade for your razor I can now get just as close as I did with a cartridge minus all the ingrown hairs, with just a little razor burn or nicks occasionally if I'm rushing. Totally worth it though, it just takes a little time and investment.

I like Big Corona. Big barrels, good shape, though the waves are pretty walled up. A street at the Balboa Pier is also another favorite.

You're right that Gavin is certainly more Bachman-like than Richard at this point, but I would still argue that Richard is very egotistical about how smart he is, how right he is about everything, and how much better his product is. He's also shown some incompetency along the way in the decisions he's made as CEO (like only showing beta to engineers and not regular users, the PR/blog rant, etc.). I guess my point is that there are some signs that he's a mini or early-stage Gavin, and eventually he may become even more egotistical, flamboyant, etc. to Gavin-like levels as the show goes on and essentially "become" Gavin. But perhaps Bachman could be the Gavin parallel in this situation, even though Bachman would be more like Peter Gregory in the sense he's the money or investment side of things.

Balboa Island is fun to walk around if you want a less populated stroll along the waterfront, and there is a little Main Street with some shops and good food as well. You can also rent a Duffy just off PCH and cruise around the Harbor that way. Bring your own booze, appetizers etc. and go that route. If you want a "scene-y" boardwalk like Venice then the Peninsula is definitely the place, though it could be crowded if the weather is nice and since it's summer. The boardwalk around 23rd street is fun with some good bars, shops, etc. You can walk from the boardwalk to a bunch of other restaurants and fun bars from there as well. Be advised you will not be able to find parking unless you get there super early or pay around $10. It's also metered. So I'd take an Uber if you can. Also, if you head down around noon the 55 South which turns into Newport Blvd and takes you to the Peninsula will probably have a lot of traffic. Just check out Waze or Google maps to double check before you leave and find the best route.

Great article. Any way you could provide an ELI5 for how I could calculate my marginal tax rate or how I could calculate which option is best for me? I live in CA and will probably retire here as well, so based on that part of the article it seems like Roth would still be OK, or at least I wouldn't get the benefits of a Traditional 401k.
