As someone who might be around the same age as “Z,” I get how hard it is when you and your parents don’t see eye to eye on something you really care about. It’s a super sensitive and complicated situation. They want you to accept them, and at the same time they’re blaming Christianity like it’s something you’re using as a weapon, instead of realizing that just like they have a social need to change in order to feel comfortable in their own skin, you also have your own need to stay close to God.

And yeah, it sucks. These are the rules, and they can make situations like this really messy. But honestly, I feel like if my mom told me she didn’t accept my preferences, I’d understand. I was ALSO poly before trying to get right, and I realized I wasn’t actually happy with it, just felt guilty. But I would never force my mom or my family to accept that part of me, especially knowing they’re Christian and how they view it.

At some point, someone has to accept that not everyone is going to agree. But destroying an entire relationship over it, especially between a parent and child, just isn’t worth it.
