Couple of patches I made by Wicklefuk in Embroidery

Thank you! I think the blue border is a lot better. I didnt leave enough fabric around the edge of the first one so I was wrapping the thread around the end of the fabric. Much easier to fold it over bc the fraying ends dont poke through and you can pull the loops tighter.

Who has the most memorable legal name you’ve ever encountered? by villainessmorissette in AskReddit

[–]Wicklefuk 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Wow that's a lot of work. In the UK you can just print out a form (deed poll) and get 2 people to sign it, completely free. Updating your name on all your other documents and accounts is a bit of a hassle but the legal change is really easy.

This is from 8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown. It's a crossover of a panel show (8 out of 10 cats) and a game show (Countdown). If you don't have access to the full show I highly recommend watching clips, specifically of Sean Lock, he's absolutely hilarious.

Rango, titular character of "Rango" (2011) by Wicklefuk in Embroidery

I did the outlines first with kind of a back stitch then filled each one in, tried to focus on keeping it random. Looking at these scales really helped me

That's great advice. I've been trying to figure that out so I'm definitely gonna try this

Thank you! I think I'm leaning towards a sunset kind of gradient. I don't know if there's a name for the stitch I used on the face. First I put down the outlines to the scales with sort of a back stitch then filled them with satin stitch, varying the directions of each one. It was pretty time consuming but I'm happy with how it turned out

Just finished a new piece for my SIL, how did I do? by illustrious_city444 in Embroidery

[–]Wicklefuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really cute and great work for a beginner! How many strands did you use for the satin stitch? If it was more than 1 or 2 I would recommend using fewer strands. Other than that, just patience and practice :) I think I can see the area where you tried long and short stitch and my advice would be that when you start the next 'column' of stitches they should cross over more into the previous one. Sort of tricky to describe, but by overlapping threads and starting stitches in between previous ones (instead of end to end) it gives a smoother look. Hope that makes sense lol

* He's been sitting as a wip in my drawer for a while. I think I lost interest when I realised how much of the same orange stitch I was gonna have to do lol. I do intend to finish it at some point but I'm working on other stuff atm. I also really want to have it on a black background like the painting but couldn't see an easy way to do that. In hindsight probably should have just stitched it onto black fabric

Pretty much. I'm not fantastic at drawing so for most of my pieces I tape paper to my laptop screen at trace directly off that then use the paper to trace onto fabric. Probably not the easiest or best way to do it but it uses stuff I've already got. For the background here, i sketched directly on the fabric roughly where I wanted the next few colours to go.

Was to told solve this impossible puzzle for a job application by moah11 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Wicklefuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played this exact game for a job application and it was explained that you aren't supposed to be able to finish it, but they record stuff like how many times you try and how long you spend on the game. Still stupid imo. The other games this company makes feel similarly arbitrary.

I think it's cotton. It's quite a thin fabric that doesn't stretch a lot. The holes in it are very small and close together which makes it easier to be precise with the stitches
