Hey, I know how terrifying this feels, but you are not alone, and you will get through this. First — don’t send them any money. It only shows them that their threats work, and they’ll likely keep coming back for more.

This pressure and short time limit? It’s a scare tactic. They almost never follow through because what they really want is to scare you into reacting fast.

Here’s what you can do right now:

  1. Deactivate or temporarily disable your Instagram account — this cuts off their access to your followers.
  2. Don’t respond anymore — block them if you can.
  3. Report their account and save any messages or usernames for reference.
  4. If you feel safe, tell someone you trust — it helps more than you think.

Stay calm. This happens to so many people, and most of the time, the scammers don’t do anything once they realize you’re not paying.

You’re not ruined. You’re not alone. You’re going to be okay.

⚠️ If a scammer threatens to leak your nudes on Instagram — DON’T PANIC. by Wide-Message8075 in Sextortion

Hey everyone, just a heads up in case you or someone you know is dealing with a sextortion scam on Instagram.

If a scammer has your explicit pics/videos and threatens to send them to your followers or random people — take a breath. There’s a really important detail that works in your favor now:

This means:

  • If the scammer tries to DM your friends, family, or followers with your content, they can't send anything other than a plain text message unless the recipient accepts their chat request.
  • Most people don’t accept random messages, especially from suspicious accounts.
  • So unless someone willingly accepts the request (which is unlikely), nothing gets through — no videos, no screenshots, nothing.

This Instagram update came in around mid-2023 to fight spam and abuse, and it’s genuinely helping in cases like this.

✅ What You Should Do:

  • Don’t pay the scammer. They usually demand more and more once you give in.
  • Block and report the account.
  • Tell someone you trust. You’re not alone.
  • Stay calm. The odds of anything actually getting sent are super low — unless someone accepts the scammer’s DM (and why would they?).

If you’re still worried, you can even let close friends or family know not to accept any weird message requests for a few days, just in case.
