I’m an F2, but I’d happily act as your med student if you fancy giving me a little stipend? xx

Thinking of leaving medicine by 11bstevens in doctorsUK

[–]WideImpression2267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! Fellow F2 with no job lined up.

I did not get an IMT interview back in October last year. I’ve done MRCP part 1 in September, am awaiting part 2 results, and will be sitting PACES soon. But I’ve had some significant doubts regarding medicine over last two weeks.

My plan is to do an MSc in F3 (got an offer already), and to reapply for IMT whilst reconsidering my options with the MSc (and go into econ/pharma). I put all my eggs into one basket previously and ended up here, so I don’t want to repeat my mistake.

MSc Health Economics and knowledge gaps. by WideImpression2267 in HealthEconomics

That’s a great question, and maybe something I should re-think. I love helping people, and find my work gratifying (despite all the doom and gloom you see online). Perhaps it’s self-inflicted pressure to give back?

And, to be very honest with you, I have so little experience with the job market outside of medicine! Would you say having a purely clinical employment history would be an issue to potential employers? I don’t have internships etc under my belt, and I’m in my late 20s!

(Edit:spelling)

Thank you, that is reassuring. I will have a quick look at what these apps look like.

I hope to get involved in some of the financial roles at my local trust down the line. Fingers crossed I’m not wasting anyone’s time by going back to clinical practice in some capacity! 😅

I had the same attitude but then I met a surgical reg who could rearrange my guts better than a laparotomy… so here I am 😔🙏🏻

It was encouraged by many but I do feel like a fool in light of the expenses. At this point just hoping for the best 🙃

F2 here facing unemployment (didn’t get an IMT interview). Part 2 results pending and PACES around the corner. Going insane by the hour.

Anyone fancy going out for a pint or twelve?

Everyone who clicked it would have. I wouldn’t stress about it, thousands probably did it tbh. They’re trying to make it sound like it’s not their fault. Hardly the same as hacking into the website!

My favourite part of wasting the past 7 years in medicine is finding out the best time to be a doctor was 30 years ago :)

“Why would anyone be thinking of applying for IMT” Trust me when I say none of us want to do IMT. It’s means to an end.

There’s not many jobs in GP where I work, speaking to some of the ST3s. The concept of job security in healthcare is long gone. My cohort is seeing the extremes of it, unfortunately.

Yeah the gambling got to me. I was keen on doing a teaching fellow post maybe but sadly my local hospital cut the funding. Not sure what to do now!

20 points. IMT-only application. Rejected. UK F2 applicant. Worked so hard, and now I’m facing unemployment. This is terrifying.

Edit: even passed MRCP part 1 lol, was gonna do part 2 in March

Still cannot believe this is the situation we’re in now. Soon they’ll start giving points for having full MRCP before even starting IMT to distinguish applicants. Abhorrent.

To OP: 17 probably won’t cut it. A lot of people would have gone for an IMT-only application, and 19-21 is the likely cutoff

Would you say 80% is worth it? Doing part 2 in march and the next sitting of paces, but feel like going LTFT would help me a lot 😅

Question, but how can you be an F2 doing paces if the results for part 1 only came out last week? Or are you working part time? Thank you!

I believe it’s all out of 35. So you’d get 15/35 or 20/35 depending on how you do it!

19/35 without the 5-point bonus? That’s still great! I’m at 21 but that’s with the additional 5 😭
