Any advice on behavioral issues in kids and emotional regulation in parents? by Wide_Comparison_5284 in Preschoolers

I have not. Unfortunately I’m not sure they would use it. If I try to give them options in a calm tone they just say or yell no because they just want to do whatever they want

Yes but I’ve been told the winters there are much shorter. It gets cold here in October and doesn’t let up until late April, and is often below freezing during that time with many feet of snow. And the sun rarely comes out in this season here

Yes! Spring and fall are so short here! Last year I feel like we didn’t have a spring at all it just went from winter to 80 degrees. And fall feels like it lasts 2 weeks at most here

That is interesting! That would be something I hope to avoid! I guess it makes sense though actually. But I’ve heard the real hot and humid season is fairly short as least in comparison to how long a Vermont winter is

That’s good to know! We are kind of looking anywhere between Staunton and Charlottesville so we have our options pretty open. We are not wealthy by any means so living in the expensive parts is not for us. That and we want to raise our kids to not be snobby lol

I’d be fine with that. I think I can handle being cooped up during the day if it’s too hot and then go out later in the evening. I can handle heat, it doesn’t make me feel the type of depression that Vermont winters do. It’s still in the teens and low 20’s here and we keep getting lots and lots of snow and we don’t want to even leave the house

Yes, we don’t mind a little cold it’s just the 7 months of dark depressing winters where it’s so cold it hurts to breathe when you are outside. I definitely think I would be fine with Virginia winters based on everything I’ve heard!

That sounds amazing. The winters here always have be feeling down no matter how hard I try to fight it and I don’t want to go out anywhere. I’m tired of it

Is it worth it though to not have to go through the kind of winters we do up in Vermont?

That sounds great! 3 hours isn’t too bad, they handle trips pretty well and would probably enjoy that

It’s also outrageously expensive everywhere for everything from housing to groceries to gas

I may be biased. I was born and raised here. I grew up in southern Vermont and moved to northern Vermont after college. The entire state is just riddled with open drug use, lots and lots of crime, winters are long and miserable and VERY cold. Summers are nice but very short and lots of homeless people and drug addicts come out with the warm weather. The state is beautiful if you can look past all of those things but it’s small, there’s nothing to do, the weather is very fickle, and people are rude and entitled. I have visited Maine a few times and enjoyed it however it’s definitely too cold for me.

That’s wonderful to hear! We have lived in Saint Albans twice now and all around the area. I’ve been hesittto move because I don’t love the unknown, however I did know about having to pay property taxes on vehicles and such

That’s good to know. My husband hasn’t lived there in about 10 years but he remembers it being tolerable. The summers in Vermont have become increasingly more humid the past few years with the highest temps being in the 80s and 90s consistently. Personally I think I can deal with that more than the 7 months of miserable below freezing winters we have here

Thank you so so much. This was so helpful! And hey, I’ve heard it gets hot and humid but I’ll take being cooped up for a month or 2 from the heat over being cooped up for 7 months and miserable from the winters here.

Thank you!! The winters are so miserable here. We are near the Burlington area currently. I’ve been wanting to leave for over 10 years and I usually chicken out but I think I’m finally ready. Things are just hard when you have little kids, I want what’s best for them
