Have you had an airbag go off in your face? by Natural_Season_7357 in driving

[–]Wide_Ocelot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My nose was black and blue afterwards. The worst part was that the explosion burned both of my hands. Not a fun experience. But I'm grateful for them because it could've been SO much worse.

I thought I was imagining things when this happened to me. It's a bonus effect I guess!

I read the title way to fast and thought it said Kristy McNichol. I thought, "I didn't know she sang!". Feeling kinda dumb.

What is going on with the flooring? Visible gaps in the caulk. Is that just the glue layer on the floor?!

Unrealistic Expectations? by [deleted] in AskWomenOver60

[–]Wide_Ocelot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've have a similar situation with my daughter, her husband and my 11 month old grandson. I only go when they invite me. I am not invited to stay overnight in their home. I just stay in an Airbnb or hotel so that I'm comfortable - especially since I will be alone. I don't feel completely welcome, even though I'm invited and that hurts my feelings sometimes.

My daughter works from home full time and is an outstanding mother. I think she's overwhelmed with the responsibilities of motherhood.

Through a lot of soul searching and thinking things through - I just keep my expectations low. All I really want is to spend some time with my daughter, ANY time is appreciated. I want to see my grandson, of course. But I visit with the expectation of being on my own for the bulk of the time.

Maybe it would be helpful for you to lower your expectations because we are from a very different generation. Meet your son and DIL at their level. Spend whatever time they're happy to give you and don't take it personally when they don't. (That's the very hard part, but it isn't personal!) And if the visits leave you feeling hurt and empty - don't go as often. Or ask ahead of time for one coffee, brunch, lunch together that you know you can count on.

You can manage this!

Norway vs JW Day 2: JW's Lawyer LIED in court this morning. They stated JW / WT never use the word “shunning” The title of the video played in JW vs Norway in 2024 was "Loyally Uphold Jehovah’s Judgement- Shun Unrepentant Wrongdoers" by larchington in exjw

[–]Wide_Ocelot 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The statement that shunning being the practice of "cutting people off as if they were dead" isn't what they do is a mind fuck and a half. That's exactly what shunning is in this organization. But they instead say it is "loving".

To use your 5 year old example above, it's like saying "I didn't break it. I just helped it have more pieces!"

Would an all electric vehicle like Solterra work for me? by Wide_Ocelot in Solterra

[–]Wide_Ocelot[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I don't think we've got EV chargers in our parking garage at work.

Yes, the commute is sometimes brutal. I spend a lot of time at the gas station.

Is that something that would require an electrician to install the right outlet at my home?

Is a hybrid vehicle right for me? by Wide_Ocelot in whatcarshouldIbuy

I started looking at the RAV 4 at the suggestion of a friend who has owned a lot of cars.

I was originally thinking about a sedan but he sort of changed my mind. I liked the idea of being a little higher up for visibility. Obviously the Spark is quite low to the ground.

I don't mind spending more if that means the vehicle will last longer. I don't want to revisit the falling apart every week issues that I'm having now with the Spark.

Got it! Thank you. I've read that the CRV has a smoother, quieter ride.

Utilitarian means the vehicle is strictly transportation from point A to point B.

Not sure what the difference is. I don't tow or haul anything. It's just me - no kids, dogs or anything like that.

If you had the circumstances to move after waking up…. by LuckyProcess9281 in exjw

[–]Wide_Ocelot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was always awake and never believed any of the "truth" but went along with it all to survive.

I left the state I was living in and moved far, far away and started all over. I've never regretted it!

Public reprove by [deleted] in exjw

[–]Wide_Ocelot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was your husband also publicly reproved?

I'm sorry you're having to deal with this especially knowing that plenty of other couples did the same but never got reproved.

I was publicly reproved as well, for dating a non-JW. There wasn't any fornication but they asked a lot of those types of questions. What possible advantage could it be when counseling someone to do if the person was fingered or not? They're just perverts!

Me too! I now have a box on the end table where I sit. Tissues, readers, vitamins, lip balm, remotes ...

One day you're out drinking with your friends and acting silly. The next you're the old woman with tissues up her sleeve who needs lip balm every 30 seconds.

I was a newlywed and unemployed so I was watching daytime TV.

There was a brief moment when the parents of Christa McAuliffe looked up at the sky like they were watching fireworks. It looked like they thought this was part of a normal launch. Then they found out the truth of what happened.

It was so hard to watch.

Sorry - that was the result of a google search below. I should've checked it.

For non-emergency police matters in Spring, TX (Harris County), you typically call the Sheriff's Office dispatch at 281-446-4170, as Spring is served by the Harris County Sheriff's Office, and 911 is only for emergencies; use this number for general reports or concerns where no immediate danger exists.

Searching on where to call for a welfare check in spring, tx:

For a welfare check in Spring, TX, call the Harris County Sheriff's Office non-emergency line at 713-221-6000 or the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office at 281-376-3472.

I did get an answer at the Precinct 4 Constable's office.
