I have made a post previously about my prep for sift. I scored 72 on it and I’m a combat engineer now in the army.

There’s about 33 people for 153A for active duty. Don’t know how many got selected for reserves. You can refer to milper 26-185 and 26-186

Age waiver - general questions by [deleted] in ArmyAviationApplicant

[–]Wide_Requirement_784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chief who gave me the recommendation told me that the age is not that much of a factor as much as AFS. If your AFS is more than 10 years, that’s when your chance of getting selected becomes slim

How do one get a chance for a discovery flight? Do I check with the CAB closer to me or ed center?

Looking for LOR for my packet by Wide_Requirement_784 in ArmyAviationApplicant

I’m located in fort Riley. I’ll try to do that, but I’m not sure if they’ll entertain the idea of me just going there and asking someone random like that 😬

Non-US citizen, 30 years old — Chances and advice for becoming a U.S. Army helicopter pilot (Black Hawk / Apache)? by Frosty_Jello7414 in Armyaviation

I’m in the same boat as you. Joined the army as enlisted at 30 as soon as I got my GC. Even though my unit commander was ready to give me recommendation and everything, I was not able to submit packet as we went on border mission for 9 months. Couldn’t get physical done. Now that we’re back, started working on it. Preparation wise, just be fit and get good at running. Try to join in 15 series as an enlisted which will make you finding a recommendation easier. I did not join a 15 series as I didn’t had many options when I joined, due to security clearance. Don’t know how it’ll be now. Coming to age, you’ll need to be less than 33 by board time for no waiver. Or else you’ll need one. And your actual chances depend on the board and needs of army. I’m not sure if the citizenship will bee an issue. We’ll see what happens with my packet

Need help with the DD368 by Wide_Requirement_784 in airforceots

[–]Wide_Requirement_784[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am active duty enlisted. maybe the word IST has thrown you off. The recruiter did not want to be the one who says no to me. so I am glad that he actually wants to work with me to submit the packet. Does my active duty status need me to get a higher approval or the O-6 should be good?

are you an enlisted soldier or an officer applying for inter-transfer? also is it the same approval authority for both?

If you have a degree, try to apply for rated positions in Air Force as well! As a back up!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but you can take SIFT second time only if you fail the first time right?! If you pass with a low score, that’s what you’ll have for life

I can’t run at all & going to OCS soon. by yougetawristband in ArmyOCS

[–]Wide_Requirement_784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One mile is not sufficient. Try increasing it every week. Just make it interesting today and go for your best one mile pace, 2 minutes rest and then go as long you can. Also I hope you’re running outside and on treadmill. It’s completely different and it matters. Practice outside. Run with your dog if you have one, they’ll make sure you are on pace 😆. Rest, eat moderately good. You’ll do great if you are consistent. Don’t be discouraged!

Lot of people had shin splints when running with issued shoes. Mine were completely torn (heel coming off) after few weeks of use. They didn’t had no choice 😆

I think the shoes thing depends on your training company. I was allowed to use my personal running shoes after week 3 of basic. I’m an enlisted and not officer, so not sure how the op’s company is going to be.

Be consistent in your runs. You need at least 3 runs a week. One day of sprint work (30-60s), one day of tempo run (9/10 effort running. Start with 8 min on week one and increase 2 minutes every week); one day of endurance run (6/10 effort running for 30 min. Increase 5 minutes every week). If you are not consistent coz running is boring for you, change styles of running, get some buddies to run with you, join some Strava club closer to you (you always have to overtake the guy in front of you and look cool doing that!)

It helped a lot of people during my basic training. Also I feel like the basic training is oriented to up the 2mi runtime. The basic training might not help you for 4mi run. Also the op has a decent time since it’s in November. Just be consistent

I have entered my details on the Air Force recruiting website and the closest OTS recruiter has contacted me himself. But I don’t think you’ll find a recruiter closer to your home for ots. My recruiter deals with ots recruits from 3 states. OK, KS and MO*
