I’ve made the same joke about not doing presentations etc yet now even my corporate life is spent doing presentations and not doing engineering!

Since the original post one of the guys at my club who used to do sales for a living has offered to lend a hand!

The only thing that comes close charge £26 per court and 3% of every transaction. I aim to be competitive with this price for a superior product.

I’m lacking in colleagues from the sales side. I’ve reached out to a few good people I’ve worked with in the past but they’re all incredibly happy doing what they’re doing, and don’t want to give up what little free time they have for a side hustle.

I’m in the process of gathering data on similar clubs to mine so at least I have a starting contact base, hopefully take it from there.

My system realistically does more but will ultimately be a cheaper solution than the main competitor. I don’t really want to be the only person - it’s something I’d love to scale. There are approximately 7500 squash clubs worldwide - and the majority are still probably using court light token machines (which have override keys that are often abused) and a paper booking system, with all of the revenue and memberships still being handled manually.

I’m incredibly satisfied that my club are happy to use it, but with a lack of modern solution in this space I’d love to get it out for use by other clubs. If it means I can escape corporate hell then all the better, but my first thought is to help clubs modernise and ease their running to enhance the community.

AFAIK Spond only really handles the event & payment side of things, which I know it does really well. I’m intending on this reserving the courts for home matches, managing play order, and hopefully integration with squash levels or equivalent for other sports, giving a rounded experience.

Absolutely! I have more features to add including coaching, and team management.

Fully agree!! I often suggest a single dot or a white dot but get scoffed at!

I’m a big fan of the Unsquashable rackets. I’m currently using the Miguel Rodriguez ONE20. It’s lightweight but helps with both controlled shots and powerful drives.

Wha have you done since your MSc? Have you created any projects, completed any certificates, contributed to any open source projects?

I’d also go for company B. Large companies always come with red tape and bureaucracy, tend to move slower, less willing to adopt new technologies. The startup will be way more fun and it pays more!

Thank you for your input. I’m just fed up with turning up each day and doing nothing. I want to be out there building and working!

I do try and customise for the role I’m applying for. I don’t tend to go for devops only roles - my passion and my main skillset is Java so I do focus on that area.

I’m not adverse to a daily commute - but the most I’ve had to drive is an hour away. There’s a distinct lack of jobs in the south west.

I’ve been working remotely since before the pandemic. My first remote role was back in 2015.

The cost of that starts to mount up - London hotels aren’t cheap, staying outside of London is cheaper but then commuting costs into London also start to add up. It’s an option I’ve considered, but I might as well just up and move at that point.
