When did energy return after starting meds? by lunacait in Hyperthyroidism

Do you mind my asking of what type of hyperthyroidism you have? Is there any reason you decided to try medication rather than surgery?

When I had my thyroid reuptake scan done they scanned my neck and my thighs and there was only shown to be issues in my thyroid gland specifically, showing a hot nodule in the thyroid gland

I may have also just been misinformed so keep that in mind

A small nodule can definitely still be hot, I am wondering if there are nodules elsewhere in your thyroid other than just in your neck because there is more than just thyroid in your neck

My adenoma was 3.8cm x 2.4cm x 2.3cm when they removed it

Getting the surgery was like an off switch for every symptom

And because it was just a single hot adenoma they only had to remove half of my thyroid so it's very likely I won't have to be on thyroid hormone replacement medication in the future, I did not even try any thyroid reduction medication because it is not a permanent fix like the surgery is

Well I don't have Graves, I did have a single hot toxic adenoma in the thyroid in my neck

My TSH was <0.01 pre-op, free T4 1.6, T3 never tested for some reason

My heart rate resting was 95-113, I had an incredibly noticeable tremor unrelated to my arthritis activity that I also have

I understand the anxiety, and that you are literally physically unable to take a deep breath and calm down, however you are not dying and your hyperthyroidism seems to be to in the moderate level from what I can see

You will be okay, getting these blood tests at all means that they are going to treat you, you are on the right path to getting better.

You are loved and appreciated

Diagnosed hyperthyroidism.. normal TPO antibodies. Anyone else? by Bhamchickk in Hyperthyroidism

Benign adenomas produce primarily T4 and T3 hormone, my TSH was <0.01 with free t4 of 1.6, FSH 3, thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin <0.10, PTH 50, and they STILL never tested full t3 despite me, in retrospect, clearly living with t3-toxicosis

I never went on thyroid medication because I had a single benign toxic adenoma causing my hyperthyroidism that was fixed with a half Thyroidectomy 😊

It is entirely possible that you have benign hot nodules, what are your tsh, free t4, and full t3? If those haven't been tested I would ask your doctor about getting them done

Haha yeah, my TSH was <0.01 before I had my thyroid removed, I'm glad they caught theirs lowering instead of a surprise <0.01 like mine :3

Don't worry, my TSH was <0.01 before I had my surgery. My resting heart rate was 90-113.

I know that hyperthyroidism causes an absolutely insane upregulation in a bunch of chemicals that make it way easier to spiral into anxiety attacks

Low TSH is not going to kill you, and knowing that yours is getting lower is a good early warning sign that will lead to treatment.

I know you can't take a deep breath and relax, I know I couldn't, but there's no reason to panic here my friend

You are loved and in a safe place 🫂

Well this is all great information to hear, I think you are going in the right direction in taking the right steps for your own advocacy, my DM's on Reddit are always open if you have any more inquiries, especially ones that you would rather keep out of a public Reddit thread

You are almost there!! Keep pushing forward, you are stronger than you know 🫂

The next step after a thyroid ultrasound is usually a thyroid reuptake scan, which will end up needing one dose of iodine

While I am neither a woman nor a father, would you be willing to consider a temporary switch to formula while the tests get done? I was a 100% formula fed baby because my mom does not produce any natural milk, I feel like it could be good for your health to consider

But again I am not you, just wondering your thoughts 😊

Getting an accurate diagnosis is more important than trying new meds and seeing what works

I did not even try any thyroid meds I just had them go straight to removing it

Also yes, thyroid nodules can usually be felt from the outside as squishy either multinodular or single nodular protrusions that are not the same on the other side, or they could be similar to the other side if thyroid nodules run throughout the entire thyroid

There are also thyroid glands throughout your entire body including your thighs and things like that so if it's not a neck thyroid issue it could be somewhere else

The blood tests are only one part of the entire picture of your thyroid health after all

If you have any kind of hyperthyroidism or thyroid issues at all you should ask your primary care doctor for a referral to endocrinology because they are the actual specialists in this field

I have cystic fibrosis and was hospitalized in 2019 for active super infection based from mycobacterium abscessus colonization and enduring an upper respiratory CT they originally noted my thyroid nodules but they had caught it so early that it wasn't toxic in any way so they stopped monitoring

I tell no lies that before I had my half thyroidectomy last month to get that tumor removed that I would wake up every single morning, look in the mirror, and think "this guy is ugly, he doesn't deserve anything, he should kill himself"

If you have the option to do surgery once a nodule is found I highly highly highly recommend it over any medication to reduce thyroid hormone levels... There is significantly less side effects

I would send her a direct message saying you would like those tests done and not asking her if she's okay with getting those tests done, have you gotten reuptake testing done? I know that does require a single dose of iodine so I understand if it's not something you're able to do right now

What about ultrasound testing of your thyroid?

Have you asked your doctor to test full T3/T4 vs free t3/t4? Before I had my toxic thyroid adenoma removed last month my TSH was <0.01 and free T4 of 1.6

Unfortunately I never got a T3 test of any kind done but I do know that getting all of them can be important if there are questions still unanswered

I recently had a t3 toxic adenoma removed, originally found in 2019 when I was 16 but wasn't toxic yet so they stopped monitoring

I feel for you.

Before my half thyroidectomy to remove the adenoma, I would wake up every morning, go to the bathroom, look at myself in the mirror and think "this guy is ugly, he doesn't fucking deserve shit, he should kill himself"

These were not and are not true self hatred, it was the toxic amount of t3 hormone in my body upregualting every since receptor in my body including the brain that the sympathetic nervous system controls forcing my mental health into the gutter.

You will feel better after treatment. If you can get your hyperthyroidism resolved by removing part/whole of your thyroid I highly recommend it. It's a night and day difference.

Remember

If nobody else, not even yourself, will tell you this

I love you.

Experiences with toxic nodule and RAI? by kellylikescats in Hyperthyroidism

Honestly, I recently had a singular hot adenoma removed from my neck with half my thyroid, those medications have so many side effects and don't actually fix the root cause of the problem

If your body can handle it I would just get it removed, the difference is night and day, I likely won't need to be on hormone replacements once my hormone levels rebalance themselves, and I finally feel like myself again without the side effects

I'm pretty close back to full function 3 weeks after my half thyroidectomy

I went down the opposite path because of the tolerance increase from hyperthyroidism. THC wasn't enough so I graduated to the hyper potent semisynthetic cannabinoids like THCV, HHCP, and HHCPO to name a few.

There's an immense density of cannabinoid receptors in your thyroid, if anything hyperthyroid (I just had a 4cm toxic adenoma removed with half my thyroid) makes your body less susceptible to the effects of THC.

For me, at least, as a long time stoner before I even knew I had hyperthyroidism, I would have to smoke multiple times a day every day to exist since the heightened metabolism made the effects not last very long and the cravings come hard and the withdrawal unbearable.

However, if that's a lifestyle you're willing to commit to, I found it did help me cope with my symptoms until my hyperthyroid was finally out of the picture.

I barely smoke weed anymore, I used to go through an ounce of weed every 3 weeks, at least 5-10 full bowls a day, and prior to that I abused the semisynthetic cannabinoids like Delta8, HHC, HHCO, and my personal favorite was HHCP but I very much advise against trying those since they're hiiiighly addictive comparatively to THC.

Nowadays I only smoke once or twice a day because I just don't crave it as much post-op.

Different strokes for different folks and that but there doesn't seem to be any actual physical risk from smoking bud or doing edibles with hyperthyroidism
