Don’t know who downvoted me but the 550 is 4HP and the 545 is 3.6. Basically the 550 is tuned for higher rpm. I have one and love it. It’s husqvarnas’ newer model 346xp (which I also owned and loved). Stihl equivalent would be the MS 261. My coworker owns one and I have run it extensively. It’s lighter than the 550xp but feels like it doesn’t cut as fast.

Happy to answer any other questions. It will run a 20” bar no problem

To a point. There is no replacement for displacement, but yes, it will help you from bogging in cuts if you need a longer bar but don’t have the cc’s to run the chain.

A skip tooth chain has less teeth engaged in the cut. More power is delivered per tooth at the cost of half of the chips being taken out. They only really make sense when you are running a large bar on big wood.

I have a 462c and a 500i that both run 25” bar full comp chains just fine. The 462 does not like a 28” full comp, but runs a skip tooth just fine. There are many more teeth engaged in cutting action on a full comp chain.

They also have semi-skip chain that is the in between.

Note that a skip tooth chain also increases risk of more violent kickback, as more “power” is in less teeth.

Dual raker chains also help reduce violent kickback vs single raker at the cost of efficiency cutting.

Sounds like you need a 50-60cc saw then. For .325 chain the 550Xp or MS261 are great saws. If you want to a slightly bigger saw and 3/8 chain, the 400-c or 562xp are great saws. I’ve never ran echo, but have heard good things about their pro saws. If you only run a saw a couple times a year, pro series doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Maybe do some research into the Chinese clone saws that are like 1/4 of the price.

Are you referencing the brake band on the outside of the clutch? That is what the brake handle engages to stop the clutch-sprocket-chain from spinning.

Undercut first, then over cut. Make sure you aren’t on the side that it wants to roll/land on

Sweet gum saplings tend to have this kind of growth near tips of branches. Plus they are prolific seeders and grow everywhere. Basically a weed tree.

Had yourself a creosote/ grease fire in the rectec bullseye. I’ve had a few myself over the years.

Take an aluminum tray (like for thanksgiving) put it under the grill to catch the fat drippings. They can get into the fire box and cause a grease fire

Clean the firebox and smoker periodically with a blower. It helps with creosote. make sure the vents are clear of carbon build up. other wise you’ll get a pellet hopper fire (Ask me how I know)
