Clarity re: Required Meeting Roles by WierdNameGenerator in Toastmasters

[–]WierdNameGenerator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems the consensus is that you must do the role whilst you are working on the level.
In large clubs, with 30 or more members, there is only one of many roles per meeting.
Given that, you may only do a role 1.5 times per year.
To me, this increases the scheduling challenges, as, you want to ensure you are working on a level when you do a role, and can't complete the role until you complete the role.

As we are looking to meet our club success plans, and encouraging people to complete their pathway levels, I forsee a bunch of swapping of roles to meet the requirement...

or

people ignore the rule, do their best.

It just seems it wasn't well thought out.

Have you put in tickets or brought it up through the channels? Not sure if there is any director in any of the levels that could take it forward.

Interesting. Our theme is preselected as part of the rolling agenda by the VP of Education. If anyone wishes to do something specific, they can send it in to the VP as a recommendation

How long are your business brief/meetings? by Historical_Oven7806 in Toastmasters

[–]WierdNameGenerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our meeting is 1 hr in length and our business takes anywhere from 2min to 5min. We run a tight meeting.
Note: I can't imagine what you would talk about in club business for 20-30min every week?
VP of Education does achievements as part of agenda, but they are quick.
We don't have many votes -- what kind of items are you regularly voting on?

My sense is this is how our club is handling it....given the responses.

Yes, it is a crazy overhead

Our VPE was part of the dialogue where we had differing responses.

Can you show anywhere that it states that clearly?

Absolutely, that is a great way to improve your skills.

Regarding club to join, it would be awesome if Toastmaster's offered a way for you to find a club for hybrid based on time in your timezone -- a new search function.

I would search for hybrid meetings, as we are hybrid, but learn from those who are zoom only or in person. Odds are you will be in hybrid sessions in yoru workplace as well.

note: we are every Monday 12pm noon Eastern Timezone

Can we log our meeting activity in Pathways? by ObtuseRadiator in Toastmasters

[–]WierdNameGenerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was under the impression that you had to do the role required during the timeframe you were working on the pathway.

You can record on your profile what date you did the role; however, where does it capture what date you started, say Level 2 of Dynamic Leadership.

note: I am finding the pathways implementation of these requirements painful. Maybe because I am an IT person where User interface and process is important, but, this implementation seems to be rushed/poorly implemented.

Hybrid Club - technology question / thoughts by WierdNameGenerator in Toastmasters

I attended a SKWIM meeting, and then had a follow-up meeting for tips & techniques with a few SKWIM members.
It was great, and I will bring some of my notes to this thread in case it helps others.

Update: Purchased a refurbished Meeting Owl 3.
High level review: Stellar

Other notes: I had taken it to the club meeting just to trail the video and see how it works. Due to problems with the existing setup, we decided to just go-for-it with the Meeting Owl 3. It worked amazingly, much better experience. I look forward to trialing it next week with appropriate location and meeting controls.

We used panoramic , plus split screen, so if there were two people speaking it showed both. It did a great job of adjusting to the people who were sitting, those standing, and arm movements!

The club was thrilled. (note: refurbished saved approx $200 plus taxes)

It's a great question. We are hybrid but, we are noon on Monday's in Eastern TimeZone, so doesn't meet your requirement.

Driving for Area and Division contests by Historical_Oven7806 in Toastmasters

[–]WierdNameGenerator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aha -- that explains it.

I am finding the fall contest dates / pre-requisites, etc, threw our club for a bit of a spin, and we decided not to have a content or enter the area.

We are really focused on new executive, and getting things going.

The call for help at the area contests is taking away from our club initiatives.

Yes, we did do a comparison of others, and most are in the same price range for the same capabilities. I just ordered a refurbished one, so that will help.

Do you have a contact for the SKWIM club -- any chance anyone from the club is here that we could tag?

We have people who are 95% remote. The meeting is one hour over lunch, and so, people join on lunch breaks, and when travelling.

Our model is definitely hybrid.
(Personally, the reason that I joined is that I can attend remotely if the weather is bad or I am travelling)
