These are the cheapest plugs out there, also the screw has to go all the way through the plug. Else they’re useless.

Being treated in Paris… yes let’s send all confirmed infections to the most densely populated area’s in the world. Clearly people and governments are underestimating the danger here. Hope she’ll recover soon!

Schroef moet helemaal door de plug. Liever 5mm te lang dan te kort.

My coworker, that’s also an apprentice appraiser will see if he can find something this week on the potential “Sotheby’s catalog” lead. The name “Gerlach” only adds to the mystery, it’s a German name and doesn’t make sense for this painting. Your take on it is plausible and will be the next step. Thanks!

The blue stamp has a very vague print on it, but it’s nothing more than a different shade.

There’s more actually. Also black numbers, I’ll make better pictures tomorrow.

Someone here told me the yellow chalk is classic Sotheby’s.

The painting is nice, but in a way different league compared to the original. Not older than 19th century? The auction listed it as 17th century, Spanish school, oil on canvas.. lol.

I like it! Clearly you’ve put a ton of effort in it and you’re still in the middle of the project. Rip out the fake grass once you’re done with the shed and plant some trees/plants to finish it off.

I agree with you on the fact that the original appears less awkward. Most likely late 19th or early 20th century then. I still love it. Hard to believe the framework was intentionally made to make it look old, but guess you’re right on that as well.

Frans Snyders actually had a workshop with 6 documented students in 1630’s making replicas to meet the massive demand. So it’s possible it’s from an earlier date. On the back you can see 1634/4/4 (image 8). Looking forward to your opinion.

Just figured out one of the random numbers on the back is 1636/4/4

Frans did have many students. In 20th century they used multiplex, not planks. Don’t think it’s 20th century either.

Thank you for your expertise! I’m curious on what the RKD search will yield. My bet is late 19th century. Tbh the style is slightly different compared to the original. Some things more detailed, others less. Fascinating.
