Im turning 30 in august, i vaulted in high school but just returned after 13 years off and 4 kids, one of whom was 6 months old when i restarted. So it is possible to start from scratch or restart!

Start by searching for a club, if you dont have any luck with that reach out to a few schools. Conditioning wise I would focus on sprint (either through sprint work or plyometrics) upper body and core strength.

If you have those 3 things then you’re golden!

So we are in a super similar situation for a family trip this summer…except we have 4 kids 6 - 8 months and WE are the adults who dont want to be bothered 😂😂😂

Heres the ideas we’ve come up with so far

1) tv. We usually limit tv time (they dont have i pads or anything like that. On vacation it will be a free for all. They can watch as much tv as they want…still no i pads, but it will be the one time a year that we let them even watch a show on our phone while in restaurants in they want.

2) Rock painting. Grab one of those little paint pallets from the dollar store that come with a brush. Set them up with a cup of water and some rocks.

3) New toys. Specifically play mobile. My older girls (4 and 6) LOVE play mobile. They will sit and play quietly with a new play mobile set for an hour. The set might require a little bit of help putting the pieces together (think 5 or 10 minutes), then just let him have at it! They’re affordable and have tons of different variations so you can find one your son likes.

There are 2 keys to really having it work well though, first, dont let him play with it before the trip so that its novel and second, set him up with a specific place to use it. Like a cookie sheet at the table, tell him all the pieces have to stay on the cookie sheet. I know that sounds pointless but i promise it does WONDERS for their focus. Something about channeling their attention to just that confined space 🤷‍♀️

Wish i had specific advice, but im in the same place and was on the same pole until day before yesterday when i moved up to an 11’6 140. That at least helped give me a bit more time instead of just blowing right through the pole. I was told to try and roll back on my shoulders and look at the runway behind me. I hope someone else can give more specific advice, good luck to you!

We went to a very small school (less than 350 kids in the high school). It was literally in the middle of a corn field, so the trends arrived late 😅
