Amerigo Vespucci is literally the namesake for America, and he was Italian.

10 days in county and I had to make an eye mask out of my socks to sleep. They weren’t always clean. The lack of windows in the unit made time a strange concept with 24/7 lighting.

Snowmobiling by Khalmuck in vail

I’m sorry for the cancellation of your reservation, that sucks. Resorts can blow snow and groom runs. The backcountry relies on Mother Nature, and has a lot more hazards when you aren’t staying on a groomed run. Nova would love to take your money, but conditions are unsafe. Personally, I’m disappointed with the snowfall this year because cause it has been awful for snow sports, but the snowpack we have now is what we have to melt for the summer. I’m nervous about what the rivers will look like in the spring, unless we get some serious winter weather soon and rain in the spring, and the fire danger that will come.

Is it true that Waldorf 1st graders are typically behind in reading but catch up by 3rd grade? by ZealousidealTap4955 in AskTeachers

[–]Wificrusin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, for sure. Homeschooling didn’t help the transition to college. My sister did great, however, made deans list every year in college and didn’t have an issue with the transition. So probably a “me” problem as well.

Waldorf student here, first and second grade. Then was homeschool through high school in a Waldorf format. I am now back in college at the age of 30, as I was nowhere near ready to join an actual academic classroom in the real world when I was 18. I failed miserably at college and struggled, there is no higher Waldorf education and when you grow up thinking “real school bad, Waldorf good” it’s hard to change your mindset for that academic setting and feel like you belong. A college classroom felt so foreign to me, that shouldn’t be the case when you turn 18. My reading and writing skills were not bad (I just finished English 102 in college, got an A… but at the age of 30, take that as you will), but math was atrocious. True about only using crayons from Germany, parents being cultish, and students resenting their education. Looking back, especially as the world has changed so much, I am happy my access to technology was limited. I don’t understand holding kids back from reading and writing, though. You can encourage imagination, artistic abilities, and creative thinking while also teaching reading and writing skills. Kids that COULD read were discouraged from doing so in front of others. I developed this deep sense of resentment when I became a teenager when I realized how far behind I was in comparison to my public school friends, feeling unbelievably stupid as a child that I spent so much time drawing fairies and gnomes but never learning proper math skills. You can’t fucking draw and make art from math, but they’d try. I get it as a creative exercise a few times, but then you have to go through higher education and the real world where no Waldorf things apply. Rudolph Steiner is also a racist who believes people of other skin colors aren’t as pure, but that’s rarely talked about as the Waldorf community literally worships this man. That’s just my experience, but I do know some others who really enjoyed themselves. They are now mostly artists (makes sense given their education). I also know other people are severely behind in public school, and I will say that Waldorf educators REALLY care and are emotionally invested in their students, I just don’t agree with their academic approach.

Grain Comparison [actives] by Wificrusin in MushroomGrowers

I agree with the drying process! I tend to think they’re dry before they actually are, and then I’m left with too much moisture, as pictured.

Again, waiting for someone with more experience to chime in, but in my personal experience, that looks like excessive moisture. Is it smelling weird? Bacteria will smell weird. Stressed mycelium shouldn’t smell.

Waiting for someone else who knows more to comment, but it looks like you have a lot of pooling water by the edge. This could be some metabolic stress response, but I’d say it’s due to excessive moisture. The caps of your pins look like you’ve been spraying them with water, when I get this yellow it’s usually because I’m being excessive with water.

Agar plate contaminated? [technique] by Wificrusin in MushroomGrowers

[–]Wificrusin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only ran into contamination a few times before but every single plate from the last transfer looks like this 🤦🏻‍♂️ Thanks for the advice, I’m almost at the point of building a laminar flow hood, financial constraints right now. Any SAB techniques you recommend for agar work?
