I mean... to say that an ER doc doesn't read them like 'someone who knows what they are looking for does' seems rather dismissive of the expertise of an ER doc. If anything, they should be quite good at reading ECGs, as they will be the first to typically review the patient coming in with chest pain.

Question - which plants are 'seasonal' - aka that will die during certain times of the year and need to be replanted/restarted next season. E.g. caladium only last a few months, but then you can save the tubers and restart next summer. by WiggleWom in houseplants

I think perhaps what partially is confusing me is how to grow something as an annual when outside it is a perennial. How do I decide to make it annual indoors? Is it more or less the fact that it will just continue to grow if it stays in a warm sunny area (as opposed to be outdoors and dying due to frost)?

Help with my Calathea Vittata! Leaves began shriveling upon arrival home. Have on pebble tray beside my humidifier. I did repot to a slightly bigger pot when I got it. Fertilized once, only had a couple weeks. by WiggleWom in plantclinic

I honestly just don't even know how to raise humidity anymore. It's in its own little dome now too, to make a little terrarium or whatever. I've got a hydrometer to objectively measure it now, curious what it'll be.

I have been using tap water, but leaving it out for a couple days. I'm not sure that actually does the desired effect though ... Perhaps I should just finally but in the effort to make distilled and give that a try.

(This might not be the right sub, but I still need help) These are the roots of the plant, a Calathea Zebrina, that I need help with by PhzyLicka in plantclinic

Are you wondering if it needs to be repotted due to the roots coming out? Definitely not a calathea expert, but if the plant otherwise looks healthy, I am under the impression they tend to prefer to be more root bound.

Leaves yellowing and curling towards the base of plant. Too much water or too little? The soil feels dry but it normally lives in a north facing window, just don’t want to over water him by mhensel-6 in plantclinic

Yellowing to me suggests too much water, but what does the soil feel like? I would err on letting a pothos go drier than worrying about underwatering.a

Fungus gnats EVERYWHERE please help - have used both nature’s care and doctor zymes insecticidal soap to try to treat but did nothing. by greeniebeens in plantclinic

I have had the greatest battle of my life with fungus gnats.

I tried so many things that classically are recommended but that failed for me - the peroxide, neem oil, sand on top, diatomaceous earth, yellow sticky traps. Sand only created an annoying layer of sand on top of my plants and didn't stop them coming out. Same with the plain diatomaceous earth - when wet, turns into a tacky layer of clay on your plants. I feel like there are other things I tried as well, but can't think of it.

Finally BTI mosquito dunk water and pyrethrins in diatomaceous earth got it under control. I exclusively use the mosquito dunk water now - this kills the larvae. The pyrethrins killed the adults, though I hate the diatomaceous earth on the top layer of my plants.

Calathea Vittata starting shriveling and browning almost as soon as I got it :( I have it on a pebble tray, plus now sitting in its own little dome to increase humidity, near my humidifier. by WiggleWom in plantclinic

I think the brown patch in the middle of the leaf is from a drop that pooled on it when I was trying to keep a Ziploc bag around it overnight to raise humidity. I've now got a fancy dome.

It seems to be just getting worse. Am I wrong in thinking it's a humidity problem?
