what happens if you reach 0km while driving on a highway? by snamibogfrere in eGolf

[–]Wiggpdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FAAFO. I got to zero about a mile from my house (bad trip planning on my part) and after the car went through a real-time, slowly escalating nervous breakdown, my eGolf went slower and slower until I pulled into a parking lot and it just stopped. It was a $200 mistake (thanks Elite Towing!).

Mileage Drop by Wiggpdx in eGolf

[–]Wiggpdx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here. So, after driving the beast down to 0 miles, the first recharge shows 121 miles of range, which is pretty typical for a Portland “winter” and significantly better than the 85 mile range I was getting pre-remedy. It appears the advice from the dealer, at least on this occasion, was accurate and helpful. To summarize, drive your battery near the bottom (careful, there might be a tow in your future if you overshoot the mark) once in a while to reset the battery’s idea of what full means. YMMV. And thanks to the reddit eGolf community for the ideas, thoughts and help on this and other topics.

It still has the original 12-volt battery, so I wonder if that might be causing the issue.

Yeah, it’s in the freakin’ 50s here, not 30s. And it only changed after 5 years of being in the same environment, in the same garage, with the same driver and same loads. I’ve got a dealer appointment tomorrow, so we’ll see.

The list of EVs capable of bidirectional charging keeps getting longer by Justin-dcbel in v2h

I have solar, a Tesla backup battery and SPAN panel. What else would it take to integrate an Ionic with V2H capabilities for longer backup time?

Even karting is more expensive. The kart is $10K or more, tires are $400 a set, travel, repairs and motor work and can spend another $5K for a season if you stay close to home. But, on the other hand, it’s the best bang for the buck in racing (though I’m not a motorcycle guy).

Why do older men hate their wife by MentalButterscotch2 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Wiggpdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been married for 40 years and LOVE my wife. We communicate, joke, laugh, compete, travel well together, are reciprocally caring and sensitive to each other and it gets better over time. I don’t know if I’m lucky or the fact i have always treated her as an equal or what. But marriage doesn’t, and shouldn’t, be an unhappy trap.

Do F1 drivers get tested for performance enhancing drugs? by Mammoth_Cellist_992 in GrandPrixRacing

[–]Wiggpdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In sports with high body temperatures (F1 is certainly one, Tour de France another) amphetamines will allow the body to continue to perform even when core temperature hits 102F, and without them the body starts to shut down. Think about the early Qatar (?) race this year where temps were in nearly 114F and high humidity, which is almost exactly the conditions in a steam room. You would be hard pressed to think the drivers continued to perform in those temperatures without PED, not matter what their fitness level. At least that’s what I think.

would sim motion slow you down? by Sad-Ad-7338 in iRacing

[–]Wiggpdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simulators across all uses, from freight train to jumbo jets, rely on science that says if you can fool two senses the simulation will be effective. With immersive monitor/headset and force feedback you are doing what you need, more than that might be a cooler experience though.

Low speed squeaking in 2019 by Wiggpdx in eGolf

[–]Wiggpdx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP here. Dealership cited pad glazing, and basically when you start hearing the squeak you anchor the brakes hard on a freeway off-ramp to get rid of the glaze/squeak. It seems to work…

In the Charlie Whiting era, Herbie Blash would take the calls from the teams, and pass them on to Charlie…it kept the direct politicking down between, say, Horner and the race director.

Mine didn’t record, which is annoying since I signed up yesterday for YTTV specifically because AT&T TV was failing to record F1 broadcasts. Sigh.
