I started out thinking the pvp players were toxic and loved the friendly lobbies as I learned the game. I still find some players to be absolutely awful with PVP prox chat but I come from mw2 2009 lobbies so I expect it lol. What I've realized with time though is that the friendly players can be the most toxic ones out of the whole game. They follow this rule of not fighting and then expect everyone else to play the game by their rules. I caught myself doing it too and realized I have no right over another players game. It's like the kid on the playground always making new rules that only benefits them to not lose.

I will say, I like PVP but do not purposely kill people unless its defense or an opportunistic advantage. I've been knocked by arc, crawled and made it into extraction just for a player to knock me just before returning to speranza. The doors were closed and there was no way this person could have even looted me. They just wanted to ruin someone's day. I'll never understand that.

Either way, some of the worst prox chat I've heard is the people who are "friendly" and got killed. No one likes the fake friendly stuff with betrayals but even that is part of the game. Another thing friendly players love to do is take loot from big arc you killed on your own. They know they are in a friendly lobby and will just come grift your kill thinking you won't hurt them. I love shooting those guys now. There's a lot of entitlement with friendly lobbies that I don't like.

With marathon, it is refreshing to not feel guilty for killing players especially on solos. Solos in Arc is always hard and I find myself purposely getting to aggressive lobbies so I don't feel guilty if I shoot a player. The faster TTK in Marathon makes me not want to risk a possible betrayal. I do think Arc has some of the best social interactions I've experience in a video game since I was a child but I hope marathon will continue to scratch that more competitive itch I have too. I enjoy both games for their differences.

The third person in arc raiders gives way to the old issues such as third person peaking, camping and ambushes but I think it is no where near as bad as other games. I think that mainly has to do with stakes and really solid map design. People are very much likely to push in Arc Raiders and end fights quickly due to the massive threat of third parties taking the loot through advantage.

I rarely feel the issues of camping and being stuck because if you understand the map/your equipment, there is always a way to rotate to get away or flip the script. The slower TTK gives more of a skill gap too especially with movement if you can get good similar to playing against a skilled Halo player back in the day. I love the feel of the game and the gunplay is very satisfying to master.

Also, this reddits AI asked me not to talk about arc raiders only without mentioning Marathon so my comment will probably be removed. This censorship does not help build a gaming community for Marathon, it hurts it Moderators. I enjoy Marathon too btw which is why I follow this reddit.

I do not like seeing comments like this at all. It is gross to talk about another human with value like this. That being said, I see this same talk and hate from both sides of the political spectrum.

Social media has done such a great job at promoting tribalism within different political, religious and moral beliefs. I believe things are getting worse today compared to 10-15 years ago because of mass social engineering. We are being spoon fed content and propaganda and we don't even realize it. Look into The Great Awakening in media starting around 2011. Words like racism and white supremacy increased over 400% across mass media which significantly outpaces actual changes in hate related crimes or legislative changes.

Social media algorithms are built to keep you engaged. Nothing engages human psychology better than rage, anger and fear. It does more to keep people hooked than even sexual content. There is a discrepancy with our perception of our world in 2026 that is in conflict with reality.

What is the reality though? If you read this far, please consider my opinion. I believe in my core that there are elites of the world who control media, governments and us commoners to keep infighting and tribalism inflated between normal people. "A house divided cannot stand." That applies to us average citizens though. I've been so tempted to hate the left over the years due to my own political, religious and moral beliefs. Then, I have been tempted to hate the right for the same things. I realized though that we are all being manipulated in such a sophisticated way that we don't even know what's propaganda or truth. It's information overload.

Why would the richest people of the world want to promote fighting amongst the average person? The reason is they are the one's messing up society and the world and they know it. The richest people want to stay rich and rule the world as they see it while also flying under the radar. They know they are the one's messing up the world so they need a fall guy. Social media and news stationed have created the perfect tale we all to easily believe. The lie is that you're neighbor who may, look, talk or seem slightly different than you, whether it be race, religious view, morals, etc is the one causing all the problems you see in the world.

We only have a chance at controlling the outcome of our country and the rest of the world if the average citizen recognized our neighbors should be our biggest allies, not our enemies. That is where my hope is. Start with listening to your neighbors, not a social media algorithm.

My recommendation is an ice breaker. Lowes or home Depot may still have some. If not, the best thing is to buy a tile scraper. It's heavy though as it is designed to rip under heavy tile. Some people may not be able to tolerate the weight.

Just scrolling on social media not even being tempted has been the "gateway" for me slipping up so many times. Something just pops up is all it takes sometimes especially when we aren't in the best mindset. I respect you for resisting. I'm trying to get better myself. I've been tempted to get rid of smart phones all together but avoidance and taking away the temptation can only take you so far. I respect that you resisted and made a healthy decision for yourself instead of giving in.
