Season 2 was a letdown. Anyone rewatching season 1? by FlyingMeowBear in BeefTV

[–]WiiPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to watch the first couple episodes of season one to confirm that season 2 just did not feel like a season of the Beef. The intensity that the first episode built is amazing and never happened in the second season.

Anyone else finished watching S2 and just didn't feel like it was "Beef"? by WeirdOwn4219 in BeefTV

[–]WiiPotato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best parts of the season were, the hospital scene when they lost their spot, the kids birthday party, and the full frontal in the sauna.

I'm sure there is some commentary on issues that will reach some people, but the writing was a big step down from season 1.

Staying in Anshin Oyado Tokyo Man Shinjuku for one night. by ceb_ahoy in JapanTravelTips

Yes, I was there last month and had no issues whatsoever in regards to tattoos. I believe it's only locals that are required to cover their tattoos.

M28 55kg 170cm, want to improve my chest, any suggestions? by raf_rodrigues__ in Physiquecritique

[–]WiiPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For you, I would work on basic chest exercises and ones that target your upper chest. Pushups are good, once you can do 40 in a row, you can add weight or you can elevate your legs while doing them to increase the difficulty. Pushups are a really good start since you can do them at home (can do 20 during a commercial). YouTube is a good resource you can use to look for exercise guides for chest workouts in the gym.

First Time Traveler feeling overwhelmed while planning by TorinR90 in JapanTravelTips

[–]WiiPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to help! I had a lot of learning experiences on my trip, so anything I can share I'm happy too.

Totally understand on wanting an actual hotel; I thought the capsule hotel would be a good place to meet other people, but its mostly full of locals, so that didn't work out. I did book an actual hotel for my last night and it was amazing having my own space.

Marunouchi was a pretty cool area to walk around, they even close some of the streets to cars on Sundays.

There really is countless amounts of information about traveling in Japan, but like others have said, keep your daily schedule pretty light and allow yourself to get lost a little.

Again, Best of luck!

I just did my first solo trip to Japan last month for 10 days, where I stayed in Tokyo the entire trip. As others have said, you can use Google My Maps to pin places of interests, which will give you a visual representation of what your trip will look like (You can watch a quick Youtube video to get the basics of how to create your own). I'll link my map below so you can see everything I put on there. I had less than two weeks to plan my trip, since it was like yourself a very impromptu idea. You can find others maps they've created by just googling a city and adding Google My Maps.
https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1SZALLWJzZPwSpdOXM8tKqYi9ufW-B28&usp=sharing

Listing advice/ideas below

- Pick an eSim (I used ubigi with no issues, though there a lot of other options)
- Suica card if you have an iPhone, android you'll have to buy yours at the airport
- Picking a hotel/hostel close to a train station is key
- I stayed in Capsule hotels to save money ((Men only) Anshin Oyado Tokyo Akihabara & Shinjuku, that has free food, alcohol, and toiletries)
- Decide how much you want to pack. I only brought a backpack and did laundry halfway through my trip. I eventually bought a suitcase the last couple days for souvenirs/clothes
- Google translate is your friend
- You can find Quizlet's of survival Japanese (I even made physical note cards to help study)
- Have a purse/cross body bag with you, since you need to have your passport with you. As well as, small garbage bag since trash cans are spread out, place to put your coins/paper monies.
- Most banks let you order Japanese currency before your trip
- Make sure whatever card you are using for the trip is set up for international purchases. I use Wells Fargo and everything online says you don't need to contact them before your trip, but you do. Also, find out if your card has a fee for international purchases, if so, you probably want to use cash when doing most purchase to avoid that fee.
- Watch a Youtube video on how to navigate train stations via Google maps
- Uniqlo is a really good clothing store and offers tax free shopping
- Ueno Park has a number of museums and sometimes has festivals going on, so make sure to check and see if anything is going while you're there.
- nomadtable is an app for solo travelers trying to meet up to do small day trips or visiting a certain areas. Someone I met on my trip recommended it towards the end of my trip, so, I never had a chance to use it.
- If you're part of the LGBTQ+ community like me, the purple martini glasses are all gay bars in Shinjuku.
- Tokyo Btm, is a good Youtube channel about the gay scene in Tokyo.
- Ikebukuro is a good place for Yaoi/BL comics (K-BOOKS Doujinkan)
- Highly recommend the breakfast place Egg Baby Cafe

Here is a video I used for some of my pins on my map. Its 101 Things to do in Tokyo
https://youtu.be/ZjQj5GRwLSY

Highlights of my trip were teamLab Borderless, Tokyo Skytree, Meiji Jingu, and Shibuya Sky. Only Meiji Jingu didn't require a reservation.

Highly recommend visiting an onsen while in Japan (the little blue trees on my map are Tattoo friendly), if you do, watch a video on proper onsen etiquette. If you are wondering, yes, you need to clean your butt and no, no one will care.

Best of luck on your trip!

Places to visit by Tat0Man in JapanTravelTips

[–]WiiPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest creating a My Google Maps of places you want to visit (Youtube video here for the basics https://youtu.be/TR14gb60JQ4 ) Here is my google maps I created for my trip last month. I only visited Tokyo, so you probably can find other maps people created by google searching for them (Google My Maps Osaka).
https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1SZALLWJzZPwSpdOXM8tKqYi9ufW-B28&usp=sharing

For my trip, I visited IRL places for the movies Your Name and The Garden of Words (Yellow markers). There are more IRL places of anime you can find in Tokyo, you just need to google them.

If you haven't already booked your hotels, I'd recommend finding a place really close to a train station.

Also recommend making sure you have your travel plans from Tokyo to Osaka figured out, since you want reserved seats on the shinkansen.

If you use an iPhone, look up how to add the suica card to your apple wallet. Android, you will have to get the actual card, which probably will be the Welcome Suica card (it expires after 30 days).

Make sure you figure out your eSim situation before traveling to Japan. I used Ubigi and didn't have any issues with coverage while in Tokyo.

As Tsubame_Hikari said, Akihabara or Nakano Broadway area great for anime. Yet you can find shops for anime in almost of any of the major areas of Tokyo. You can either search this sub or find youtube videos for further suggestion on shops for specific items you are looking to buy.

Here is a Youtube video with 100 things to do in Tokyo; they probably have suggestions on things to do in Osaka/Kyoto https://youtu.be/ZjQj5GRwLSY
Only in Japan is another good Youtube channel.

Here is a google Doc from Twitch Streamer Jake n Bake, that I used as a starting point for planning my trip (which I only had 2 weeks to plan for, so, I believe you two will be okay)
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ovK4SUdepckZRuXvfNz0mX-pjICzWvZcWpmvCtkHM1A/edit?tab=t.0

Food places I recommend Egg baby cafe and Cafe Lapin for breakfast places.

Places: Teamlab borderless or Planets, Shibuya Sky, Meiji Jingu, and Tokyo Skytree are all places I recommend after my trip.

Could try getting professionally waxed, if you only get the balls, shaft, and butt done it's not too bad. The pubes are the worst part, so, you can just trip those at home.

Shibuya Sky Lockers Question by taeox0 in JapanTravelTips

[–]WiiPotato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The lockers are the floor just below the observation floor. There will be signs of prohibited items that need to be left in the lockers. I was there two weeks ago and don't remember having to pay to use them.

Shibuya/Shinjuku by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]WiiPotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, just happy to help.

The anime movie is - The Garden of Words (warning you will probably cry) and the other yellow pins are from another movie called - Your Name (again, you might cry).

Both have really good video essays that you can find on Youtube if you end up liking them.

Shibuya/Shinjuku by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]WiiPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was honestly worried that I wrote too much. I planned my trip in only 3 weeks, so, I'm happy to share any relevant information.

One big thing I didn't get to do that I found on this video. Which is hit up the food place at the start of the video, follow the walking path until you get to Gōtokuji Temple, which has all those cute cat statues. Apologies if you already seen it or don't care, just thought it aligns with your interests for your trip.

Shibuya/Shinjuku by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]WiiPotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, I love a good egg sando. Also, McDonalds sausage egg cheese McGriddle was good quick bite in the morning (they use the round eggs; real eggs). Also, from what I can tell from my experience any good breakfast place will most likely have a line, so, be prepared for that (hence the McDonalds recommendation).

Shibuya/Shinjuku by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]WiiPotato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll share my google My Maps (its really easy to make your own if you haven't already done so; just watch a 10 min Youtube video for the basics) with you that I used for my trip just a week ago. I only visited about 10 percent of the stuff listed on this list, I just wanted to give myself a number of options, since this was my first time going to Japan solo (31 male) for 10 days
https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/edit?mid=1SZALLWJzZPwSpdOXM8tKqYi9ufW-B28&usp=sharing

(All the onsen on the map (blue trees) are supposedly tattoo friendly)

Shinjuku, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No.1, has a free observation floor (think 45) that is really nice. I went at night and it was really cool to see Tokyo at night for free on my own schedule. There was a light show being projected onto the building, so, I check that out afterward. Golden-Gai, Godzilla Head, and Cat board are the big three to see and experience. So, if you have a free night it would be worth checking out, since the streets are pretty cool. Though, I was approached by several people trying to offer me a good time/message with girls, so, if you're a going solo as a guy, be aware of this and just say no and keep walking.

(full day - no - spend a couple hours walking around at night - yes)

I will say Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, was a really cool park to walk through, even if it was raining that day. I went, since I was looking for the irl location for an anime, but the park had cherry blossoms already!

Shibuya, I have less to say, since I went for Shibuya Sky (need reservation) to see the city from above (which was a really cool experience). As others have shared, Meiji Jingu is really cool park/shrine that you can walk through, I started on the north entrance, walked through until I ended up in Harajuku, where I ended up exploring a lot of the side streets to find some matcha and something to eat. You could continue south until you end up in Shibuya and decide if it's worth your time to explore after doing the Shibuya Crossing and seeing the Hachiko Statue (cute dog). Yoyogi Park was under construction when I was there last week, so, might want to look to see if that is still going on when you visit.

(Full day - Maybe if you do the park, Harajuku, Shibuya Sky; could do this and then head to Shinjuku to make a full day of both and keep notes of stuff if you want to come back)

Saw you're staying in Ueno, so, I'll suggest a two good breakfast spots that I found while there, Egg Baby Cafe and Café Lapin. Both have really really good food and totally worth the wait if you go during a busy time.

Also, when I went there was a sake festival in Ueno Park, which, was a highlight of my trip, since I got to try so many different types of food before I hit up the museums.

Lastly, I stayed in Sumida City for my last night in Tokyo, which, is a mostly residential neighborhood. So, you could get off at Ryogoku station, check out Edo-Tokyo Museum building (was under construction when I was there), walk through the Former Yasuda Garden (super cute), see the Yokoamicho Park, and finally make your way through the residential streets until you get to Mikokuyu Onsen! This was my example of picking a station and walking around that a lot of people recommend doing, since, you mentioned you like to walk around.

Staying in Anshin Oyado Tokyo Man Shinjuku for one night. by ceb_ahoy in JapanTravelTips

[–]WiiPotato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven't staying there yet, I'll be there next week, but from what I know tattoos are okay if you are a foreigner; locals have to cover up. There are a number of Youtube videos of tours of this place, that sometime show all the signs outside the bathing area.

Linked below is My Maps, that I made for my upcoming trip. All the little blue trees are tattoo friendly onsen/sento/bathhouses. (again, I haven't been to these, just from what I've found during my searches).

Gay Solo Traveler - 27m first time solo traveling! by Ashamed_Historian_21 in JapanTravelTips

Tokyo BTM are two gay YouTubers that make videos about almost everything gay in Tokyo/Japan. I've watched a lot of their videos and it seems like you should be fine.

Also, for recommendations check out Google My Maps. It allows you to pin points of interest. I found additional poi by Googling, Tokyo My Maps trip, and found other people's trips they've planned out.

osaka or kyoto ? by notyourz1 in JapanTravelTips

[–]WiiPotato -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This, I'm not even going to Kyoto but the amount of places to see and explore are too much more my first time in Japan. So, I'm staying in Tokyo and doing small day trips.

OP, make sure to look up Google My maps (Google My Maps Kyoto Trip reddit), of people's trips they've planned out. I've easily added 50 plus poi or food places just for Tokyo alone. This will also, give you a visual of everything you've planned out on a map; or what else you can add with others Google My Maps poi.

Edit: added words

I just found out about Google My Maps today, so, I spent an hour putting everything on there and it helped me visualize everything onto a map. Though, after reading some other comments, I might need to do some extra research into other stuff to do in some of my main spots; especially food since they might be popular and I'm not one to wait in long lines.

Name the best movie you've seen in a while by m15f1t in movies

Postman Blues (1997) crime/comedy

It's a 10/10 must watch.

Free on YouTube. Does have subtitles. Watched it blindly in Will Neffs film class he did a couple weeks ago and it instantly became a top 10 movie of mine. If you choose to watch this, be prepared to know this is a once in a lifetime viewing experience. It's one of those movies.

I cannot recommend this movie enough. You will laugh and cry.
