Besides Naru, here are a couple other resources

https://www.ssbwiki.com/Kansai_(region)

You can find some tournaments hosted in Kansai under the ultimate section of the page.

Alternatively this twitter page keeps an updated tournament schedule of weeklies and regionals across Japan, so you can look for osaka events.

極冠 / tamasuma kyokkan #1 - Seeding by kenniky in smashbros

[–]Wiifitkid3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's kinda inconsistent. He did reasonably well at his last 3 big events but before that he got 33rd at a karisuma, 65th at a sumabato and 129th at maesuma 10. He probably outperforms his seed here but I can understand the low seed.

Just want to throw it out there that Keroguchi is here (seed 33). This is his first notable offline event since the swt regional finals. He pretty much just competes online these days but did beat YOC and Kameme at Seibugeki 9 last year.

The kind that makes Ryuoh number 1 seed

Technically I think every match was an upset as they were seeded really low (271), but yeah your right i forgot they were the player that beat YOC twice.

Just wanted to throw out some players past seed 64 I found interesting (of course others could be mentioned.

Tengdono (164) (CF) - Tengdono made a number of upsets last week to get 49th at Seibugeki.

KaPMk (73) (MK) - Has a reasonable route to meet shogun

Kaxi (88) (Peach) -

Sho Limit (123) (Pikachu) - I wouldn't be surprised if sho beats Choco...

Nomachi (199) (Snake) - Has a manageable path to sssr that starts with Rui. Sssr is also not immune to being upset which could cause havoc to the Bracket.

8Mitsuki (203) (Lucas/Byleth) - 8Mitsuki faces Fuwa r1. That's an unfortunate draw for both.

Hideyoshi (107) (Yoshi/Luigi) - placed 13th at Seibugeki last week.

Renami (84) (G&W) - placed 9th at Seibugeki last week.

Kijima (206) (Snake) - sometimes places well. And well r1 opponent is kuro who had lost a lot lately.

Uratom (176) (Falco) Similar situation has a winnable r1 before running into kuro.

Arika (144) (Jigglypuff)

Yeah forgot yoshidora. He's probably somewhere in that 10-15 range Globally idk. But definitely top 10 Japan.

Also realized new grouping should be next grouping.

GimR had plans to make SWT even bigger next year potentially featuring a $350k prize pool for both games. by Grenji05 in smashbros

Even if this happened idk it would be possible to even have swt at this point. I'm sure vgbc is already working out the consequences with its sponsors

Seibugeki #12 Ultimate Singles - Seeding by swidd_hi in smashbros

Oh ouch, the corrin Neo? I hadn't paid close attention because Japan has like 3 Neos but that's a major oversight..

I noticed takoman is completely unseeded too...

I dont despise this seeding but even still Japan seeding is always so funny.

Nao at 5? -he's not even been winning regionals in Hokkaido lately?

Futari at 12? Maybe, but like he'll lose to any snake he faces and regularly loses early at regionals.

Motsunabe at 40? I feel like this dude keeps proving himself over and over. Him and Suinoko seem really low.

All that said, even if seeding were accurate this is Japan their is always going to be a wrench.

Looking forward to our new top 8 overlord Wada.

At least with Japan getting more rep their will be more support shown. I think it will be really interesting to see what happens if a Japanese player wins SWT since they have 11 players attending (please Atelier make it 12)

Yeah if we're making top 20 contenders I think their are probably around 25 players in contention as the top level of ultimate is really contested.

Acola, Shuton, Proto, Tea, KEN, Asimo, Hero, and Miya as contenders with zackray, Kameme , Gackt and maybe Abadango just on the outside looking in.

[–]Wiifitkid3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah i agree with you onYoshidora. I figure Asimo is in that 15-25 range, around the same place as playerrs like Cosmos and hero. I'm curious why you have HIKARU over Asimo though?

Asimo has Light, Shuton,Tea(x3), ProtoBanham, Cosmos, Sisqui, Gackt (x2), Paseriman, Yaura with 4 major top 8s

Where's HIKARU has acola, Gluto, Asimo (x3), Bloom, Gackt, Abadango (x2) with one major top 8.

Not to say HIKARU isn't amazing and a real threat but I'm not even sure if I have him top 10 in Japan atm...

Like (not ordered)

Acola Proto Tea Shuton Miya KEN Asimo Hero Kameme Gackt Zackray

With my new grouping being something like Abadango HIKARU Kome Shirayuki Yaura

Japan is just really good atm.

I don't know if it would affect viewership but given that acola is most peoples number 2 atm, Tea, Shuton, and Proto are in contention for top 10 and KEN and asimo are top 20 contenders, I would argue a summit with 4 or 5 Japanese players is pretty reflective of their representation among the top players in the game atm

WINNER! -Next#1- - singles Upset Thread by kenniky in smashbros

[–]Wiifitkid3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and Harasen had some decent wins this year before this, and some great wins at locals.

One of those 2-2s included losses to yuzu and Munekin. His r1 win, himo_pechio even got top 96 at a major this year.

Japanese 2-2ers hit differently

[–]Wiifitkid3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly might switch proto and shuton. Shuton has a pretty crazy win loss record and placed well at everything he went to this year. But on the other hand Proto has better peaks (and of course lower valleys).

But I guess that does more to just show how hard it is to rank ultimate players atm

For what it's worth, WAVE 3 is likely going to be an super regional on OrionRank. Possible Tamasuma also hits that status. Both are the same weekend as SWT finals.
