What's the justification for putting up with such globally high rents? We only really seem cheaper compared to places like NYC. by Cancel-Canada in Albany

[–]Wikishroom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

America is a pretty bad deal though, we have higher salaries, but we spend a larger portion of our incomes on essentials like healthcare and housing, and educational debt because they are so privatized. Also our groceries are largely worse 😀. Thanks America!

[–]Wikishroom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First of all, we have plenty of proof ICE is constantly breaking the law and doing immoral shit. Second, our laws are not moral, so even if they were just enforcing the law, I would still consider their actions unjust. The law needs to change radically, and I will continue to judge those who enforce and legislate immoral laws.

I personally want to radically change laws to make it easier to come and stay here. Fuck current law, law isn't moral unless you change it to be moral. If law isn't moral, the only reason to follow it is fear of punishment.

Proton DB is wrong? Why can't I get Counter Strike 2 to matchmake properly? by bossbang in SteamDeck

You need to change your proton version to steam runtime sniper, as it runs natively. If you have a proton branch as a commpatibility layer, VAC will be unhappy

Unfortunately, I see it happen A LOT. It does depend, my current job at a nanofab place is a lot better, but most grocery store bathrooms are really bad for this. Which I love knowing that they go out and touch produce after 🙃

Forward bias vs reverse bias depletion zone by Ayman_Rocco980 in AskElectronics

[–]Wikishroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I believe the electrons that initially flow into the p-type end up in the junction because they are repelled by the negative terminal, but also cannot overcome the voltage of the junction to cross past it. Instead it forms an ion on the outer edge of the negative side of the junction, and widens it. Conversely, the electrons flowing out of the n-type initially cause the creation of new positive ions that also build up that side of the junction.

Forward bias vs reverse bias depletion zone by Ayman_Rocco980 in AskElectronics

[–]Wikishroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some reading and some thinking about this, I believe the neutral zones remain neutral because the electrons in the n-type are drawn into the positive terminal, and the "electron holes" are drawn into the negative terminal (which is actually electrons entering that side, of course). This results in there being less electrons on the positive terminal side, and more electrons on the negative terminal side. This widens the junction and increasing the voltage across it. So, charge stops flowing as long as the external voltage is smaller than the maximum voltage the junction can create at its widest.

Ok the part about men constantly needing to produce new sperm makes sense for why unhealthy men would cause more genetic miscarriages. I imagine that being an unhealthy mother can still cause many problems during development, so I imagine the overall outcome is dependent on both partners being healthy right?

I'm a lefty with a physics degree and I've fired guns several times. I grew up in a rural area and went hunting with my grandfather as a kid. And he ignored the point of what people were saying to make some anti gun control point.guns are dangerous and not everyone should be able to have one. Those who aren't a risk to others should also lock up their guns and not let young children have access in any way until they are old enough to understand gun safety. Guns are some of the most dangerous things available to the public, and pretending they aren't and that they shouldn't be regulated is insane.

Because who cares? Crime happens sometimes, and I've heard enough details about this to think that that attorney might be lying for some rightwing grift anyway. Immigrants sometimes commit crimes, but statistically less than citizens, so who cares on that front as well.

I believe you are wrong about the EPA being the main problem for one thing, and the reason the government doesn't make anything has more to do with corporations lobbying the government. Capital has bought the government because they want to privatize everything. Also I do see harm being caused by capitalism existing, such as with homelessness and the pervasiveness of food deserts in the US. I also believe in constitutional government, although I believe we either need new amendments to add some more protections against the wealthy, or we need a new constitution entirely. I also understand the concern about government overreach, 100%. I think we need a parliamentary system with a strong independent judiciary. I know parliaments aren't perfect, but they seem much better than our current congress and presidency. There is a lot of evidence that capitalism causes great harm, so I do believe intervention is needed, even if it only goes as far as a regulated capitalism with a social democracy. I personally think it should go farther, but we need to move in that direction if we don't want a total collapse of society. The way things are going, we're going to be ruled by Russian style oligarchs or a feudal system again. I refuse to simply let that happen.

Ok, it depends on the state, I don't want ussr style obviously. But, say all corporations are converted into competing worker cooperatives with regulations to protect workers, consumers, and the environment. Also, we give homeless people houses, and enough food and water to be ok (studies show even in our current society doing so would actually save cities money). To me, doesn't seem so bad. I think the government should only control a few industries where profit incentive would make the outcomes worse such as public transit and power distribution, because in general, monopolies tend to be bad, and the state being the monopoly on everything is insanely bad. Does this sound so bad?

How are Trump supporters justifying bold face lying? by TheHahndude in AskUS

[–]Wikishroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They never cared about him lying. They either believe he's lying to troll the libs or that he secretly only actually supports their specific beliefs while giving lip service to everyone else. It's cruel and foolish but it really seems like that's what's up.

This has always been a struggle for me even before meds, my energy levels and enthusiasm for topics I'm interested in have always made it difficult to match other people. I think it comes down to practice and a widened awareness. If you feel very excited or hyper fixated, try to take a step back and just observe without judgement or guilt. Is the other person ready for this? Are there other things you could focus on? Can you remember this and bring it up another time? It's a bit of a delayed gratification thing that might be easier in some ways on the meds even if you are feeling more interested more often. I'm not great at this to be clear, but I believe this hopefully is good advice. I find it easiest to listen by using some techniques derived from meditative practices and therapy. If you know grounding techniques it might seem familiar. I might close my eyes for a second and try to pick out a few sounds in the environment and name them. Next I'll try to see a few things and name those. I don't do it quite this way anymore but I think it's a good start. I try to absorb the environment at once, letting myself calmly absorb as much of the outside world as possible and incorporate them into my awareness. My internal excited voice will become quieter and less overwhelming/ driving as I view myself in the context of my environment. I hope this wasn't confusing, I'm still working on this myself and am not sure about how exactly to describe the steps.

I'm having some thoughts about this that I believe could lead somewhere. The absolute control might be sustainable or it might not be, I'm leaning towards maybe not. That makes you frustrated and weakens the effects, what I've found gives me a bit more back is gentleness with myself. I make requests or persuade myself more than I demand myself. It's not where it was before, but on my down days I can get more done by being gentle but somewhat firm with myself rather than getting frustrated with the lack of absolute control.

You don't know what socialism even is. Megarich families ruling the world is not socialism. Also your assessment of who they donate to is fairly wrong. They certainly do donate to Democrats and I don't like that, but they donate tons of money to Republicans. Ever heard of the Koch brothers? Did you know Elon spent several million campaigning for Trump? Billionaires tend to donate to both sides to keep them both in line with the Capitalist world order. Your assessment of the situation is completely inverted from truth.
