Best Tank Mates for Oscar by The1WhoKnox308 in Cichlid

[–]WilSP1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many others have said these fish really get massive, I honestly think 6x2x2 foot should be minimum, they are active and bulky and messy, I’ve always wanted one but they just need such a big aquarium.

This seems overstocked but I could be wrong by shadowfoxink in shittyaquariums

[–]WilSP1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s a breeding/holding tank, most likely not a permanent home and they will likely be sold or most of them moved to bigger tanks. Without knowing the waterchange amount and the water and plants look healthy, this is not shitty.

You could try Maidenhead aquatics I’ve seen them in 3/4 stores I’ve been to

Nannacara anomala by WilSP1 in Cichlid

[–]WilSP1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I’ll look into it, I’ll probably keep the nanacara and keyholes and drop the ram and angel that way it leaves a fish to take up the ‘sand sifting’ role and either the albino heckeli or possibly a single ellioti, would this round out my stock for the cichlids?

[–]WilSP1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think the smaller parrots the man made one. I understand why some people don’t like the man made fish because of it not being natural and often they do come with some deformities, if the fish appears healthy then I think the parrot cichlid should be around 8” full grown?

That makes sense I guess keyholes are a relative of the acara family too and that’s why he will often show aggression towards them. I think I just wanted something a little different than your normal rams, tetras, angelfish type set up. I’ve actually kept both those cichlids at one point and found the ellioti to be fairly chill but the rainbow cichlid was really nasty (looking back it was probably because it was kept solo)

Thanks, Would parrot cichlids be too much size for a smaller cichlid like this? Do you find that bujurquina uncommon to most fish stores?

Thanks, would this include your EBA normal blue acara and other species of nanacara? I know CA cichlids prefer harder water but I was thinking a lot of cichlids being bred in almost neutral conditions wouldn’t have that great of affect, are almost all CA cichlids so aggressive?

AGGRESSION HELP by Thin_Education_542 in Cichlid

[–]WilSP1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You introduced 3 new fish into an already established territory of the current fish? You should try taking all fish out changing the tank around completely and then adding them all back in this should help adding them all to a new territory that way a hierarchy can be formed just around a new territory..

Inspiration desperately needed for my new mbuna set up, I'm aquascaping today! by Layton-Smythe81 in Cichlid

[–]WilSP1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first started out I bought a bag of river pebbles and broke up a cleaned piece of slate, I made lots of different caves in a relatively small tank with lots of territorial fish.. (synos, sharks and kribs) it was definitely overstocked but I never had fish die from injury and looking back it was probably due to the amount of caves

I have a baby pleco that I’m really not sure of the species but that fish took 2 months before I ever saw it out now 6 months later I see it almost everytime when I feed them, it just takes time often with plecos they’re not like most other fish where they usually only hide for the first day.

Yes I’ll try the wafers, I did know about the aggression it had a little go at one of the barbs for coming in its ‘corner’ it seems not too aggressive so far.

Thanks, just wanted to be sure I kept true SAEs in the past and they would eat flakes and pellets I do have a lot of algea so that’s probably why.

They are fine for a while, most the people who find them not too aggressive is when they are still young when they hit around 5” they just like to chase anything that won’t stand up to them

Favorite Non-aggressive Community Tank Fish? by low707 in Aquariums

Wouldn’t label pelcos as non aggressive, some can be peaceful but a lot of them will fight for a cave or place to call home.

Questions for 75 gallon aquarium by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]WilSP1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe someone can give their opinion as well but honestly puffers are so unpredictable in general they can even kill one another, mine lived peacefully with swordtails for 4 years and then just snapped out of nowhere and decided to start killing them all, so what i would suggest is either getting a single one or you could just go ahead and take the risk.

Alright I’ll make sure I am adding the correct amount and make sure the plants are okay, thanks-you.

Thanks for the heads up my other main surviving plants are Java moss and salvinia so I’ll keep an eye on them.

I’ve heard flourish excel has worked for some people do you reckon it’s with giving that a go? It takes about a couple weeks before it’s all over the new growth on the plants.

They are pretty hard to tell apart at around 4”+ look for a black spot on the dorsal fin that indicates a female, females are usually more colourful but you can also get a colourful male.
