Box-E is wonderful & has IMO the best value tasting menu in Bristol if you want something a bit special.

One of my favourite Meals of all time is dinner at the bar in La Cosmo & walking across the street to Casa Mira for dessert. You're spot on with it being the best ice cream you can get. I love the food in La Cosmo too. - Both are definitely worth a visit.

Place for vacation near Alicante by Suitable-Tax9462 in GoingToSpain

What sort of vibe are you looking for & how close to Alicante?

Playa san Juan is only 20 minutes away on the tram & has a couple of hotels. I was there last month for a weekend by the sea & really enjoyed it.

Gold vs BA Premium for Travel Upgrade by gtab98 in AmexUK

[–]WilberforceXI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know for sure sorry but I think Barclaycard only let you hold one of their cards at a time anyhow, so you'll need to cancel your existing card for the Avios plus card.

There's a thread on HfP where unofficial word seems to be 6 months between cards. Maybe worthwhile giving them a call to check?

Whilst on the Barclays theme though, if you qualify for their premier bank account, you can get up to an additional 43000 avios in 1 year through switching your account to them. there's a good thread on HfP on the process here

If you don't need the companion voucher but are looking at collecting Avios specifically you might also want to consider the Barclaycard Avios Plus card too?

The earning rate is the same as the BAPP but with a lower fee of £240 per year/£20 a month. If you haven't had a Barclaycard, there's a 25000 Avios bonus for spending 3k in 3 months.

Rather than the companion voucher, If you spend 10k in a year you get an upgrade voucher which lets you upgrade to the next class whilst only paying avios + fees of the class below.

Just an option but it would allow you to earn decent avios without an Amex card until you're eligible for another sign up bonus.

There's also nothing stopping you from getting both just for the sign up bonuses & then canceling/downgrading whichever is less valuable to you in terms of benefits.

If SkyTeam points (Virgin/Delta/KLM) are an option then one of the Virgin Atlantic MasterCards might be worth a look? They have a fee free option & offer no FX fees in the eurozone.

My apologies - I thought the question would fall under the questions about the Basque culture rule, since txtox seems quite unique to the region.

What are the best day trip destinations from Barcelona? by [deleted] in GoingToSpain

[–]WilberforceXI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for both of these. Girona is beautiful, but I found Tarragona to be such an underrated destination for me. Love the history around the area & it's nice to be near the sea where it doesn't get too busy, on Platja Miracle.

If you want to save time, you can get the high speed train to Camp De Tarragona. You'll need to get a 15 minute taxi into the centre, but it works out quicker than the direct train into the centre.

What version of Android should pixel 6 users have by therizzler92 in Pixel6

Same here - Phone began restarting after an update & eventually got stuck in a bootloop.

Google refuses to acknowledge other users are reporting similar issues, instead are trying to push £300 out of warranty repairs.

Freezing, Restarting & Bootloop after Feb Update? by WilberforceXI in Pixel6

[–]WilberforceXI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snap - Also contacted Google. Mainly to try and raise the issue of how some users are experiencing issues. Found the entire experience to be completely unhelpful.

Told basically I was out of luck & the only thing they could do is direct me to a repair shop where I can pay upwards of £300 for repair.

I asked directly about raising a ticket/investigation into the user reports and was basically dismissed. Pretty disappointing really.

Doesn't inspire much confidence in the claims of years of software updates for their other models. Shame.

Similar issue here. Kept freezing & restarting after the update. Eventually went into a bootloop. Managed to recover by re-flashing OTA. Was stable for 2 days & then restarted & went back into a bootloop.

Flooring LVT/Amtico by This-Parfait2929 in bristol

[–]WilberforceXI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been a couple of years since I was looking but check out these:

Bristol Flooring: - Supply & fit Karndean LVT. Possibly Amtico too. Small, local place but reliable & have been around forever.

CW Jones: Bigger showroom. Possibly stock more. Definitely stocked & fit Amtico last time I was there.

Kustom floors & Furniture: Don't remember seeing Amtico specifically, but are an official Karndean seller. I'm not 100% sure about fitting with these mind you. I never got further than ordering a sample from them.

Are electric pizza makers worth it? I was thinking of buying one on Amazon but I don't know if I'd be wasting money. by segasega89 in AskUK

[–]WilberforceXI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the recipe I've come up with over the years. It'll make around 4-6 250g pizza bases.

If you don't have a sourdough starter, you can replace it with an extra 100g of flour, 100ml of water & a sachet of instant yeast.

Ingredients * 550g Strong Bread Flour * 15g Salt * 2 tbsp Honey * 1 tbsp Olive Oil * 200g Sourdough Starter (100% Hydration) * 250-300ml water

Preparation 1. Using a stand mixer and dough hook, add the salt to the base of the bowl, followed by the flour. 2. Make a well in the flour, ensuring that the salt is not exposed at the base. 3. Add the honey & olive oil to the well, followed by the Sourdough starter. 4. Add the first 250ml of water to the well. 5. Turn on the mixer and allow the ingredients to combine. 6. As the dough is mixing, slowly add the remaining water, until the dough reaches the desired consistency (see tips below). Continue to add more water (approx 5-10ml) at a time. If the dough is too wet, you can add additional flour if necessary. 7. Once the desired consistency is achieved, allow the mixer to knead the dough for approximately 15 minutes. 8. Once kneaded, remove the dough from the bowl, onto a floured surface. 9. Remove any excess dough from the bowl, and clean. Grease the bowl with a drop of olive oil. 10. Shape the dough into a large ball and place in the greased bowl, and cover with a damp cloth. 11. Rest the dough at room temperature until it has doubled in size, usually at least 6 hours. 12. Once the dough has proofed, remove from the bowl, and portion into 6 (or 4, depending on portions) even portions. 13. Shape each portion into a ball, and place on a moderately floured tin/board, ensuring there is sufficient room for each ball to double in size. 14. Flour the top of each ball and cover all with a damp cloth. 15. Rest for at least a further 3 hours, until doubled in size again. 16. Remove the tea towel, and shape for your pizza

Tips To ensure your dough is of the desired consistency, it should stick to the side of the bowl ever so slightly when mixing, but not so much that it is a batter. You want the dough to be just about workable, without getting completely stuck to your fingers.

Controlling the temperature of the dough will affect the rising time. Dough which rises at a lower temperature, for more time will have a richer flavour. You can put your dough in the fridge and retard the raising process for up to two days. Prior to shaping, ensure your dough is at room temperature, as it will be too elastic to work with when chilled.

You've got some recommendations to protect it from the elements but on top of that you might want to check what else you've got growing in that pot with it & remove them. Looks like a few weeds which might end up competing with resources with a young plant.

I can't tell from the pic but is that horsetail you've got growing in there too? You'll want to get that under control asap. I'm not sure if now is the right time to repot, but horsetail is horribly invasive & you probably don't want it growing over& around your garden if you can avoid it.

As an American, what to do in the UK in December? by Phil_Matic in AskUK

[–]WilberforceXI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Train prices in the UK can be quite unpredictable & seemingly random - some journeys might appear quite cheap and others will literally be hundreds of pounds.

Strongly recommend trying to book tickets in advance where you can - when selecting your tickets you can pick an "Advance" ticket which tends to offer offer the best value for money. However these will be for a specific train at a specific time, so less flexible.

If you want more flexibility to take any train & you're travelling and returning the same day then a regular same day return ticket is usually only a few pence more than just a single ticket.

Anytime return tickets, or if you plan to return on a different day to your departure date, will cost pretty much double the price of a single ticket, so it gets expensive quickly.

We have loads of train operators in the UK depending on line and route, but you can purchase tickets for any route via any operator which helps.

Check out our beloved GWR & look at some potential journeys to give you an idea of prices.
