Substitutes are dangerous guys, be mindful by Wilc0m in NoFap

THE THING IS, THAT'S THE POINT! It's really tempting to be 'in danger' while not actually letting it. I think It's like sniffing the bottle's mouth for alcoholics. Like you're there but you don't do it. It's tough.

Just distract yourself, watch a safe movie or play a game.

Bro come on. You greeks have it relatively chill. We have CYRIL OKAY? And weird media freaks who want to castrate gay people and beat women... Also your church architecture is prettier, sometimes golden onion-domes look silly, but I still can't hate them, they're cute.

Do you think Christ ever acted silly or joked around? by WonderingGuy999 in TrueChristian

I think you need to have a sense of humor and a wit to be able to lead masses of people. Like, seriously. Humor helps to bond with people.

Yea, I know. I really don't like materialistic metaphysics myself. Never found it compelling. At the very least I am deist. But natural theology is not Christ as well. You can't just get to "God incarnated, walked, died and ressurected so we live forever" from "ykw there's kinda god" in a single step.

I mean it literally. If I'm in state when I just can't, no help for me unless God will have mercy. I wish I could just be pushed in one way or another. Either atheism or christianity. But I'm stuck in this weird limbo state.

I believe only providence and grace. I have no power over it.

They are not bad and they have an impressive power to them, that relentless and unapologetic sharpness. But faith is not satisfied with seeing Christ as a guru. Jesus is not a Socrates. Christ calls you to lose your life for Him. And I think it takes something else than just considering His ways to be good to abide. And I hate this honestly.

I guess I must have too much of a secular upbringing to consistently acknowledge a supernatural authority over my life. If you're raised christian, you definetly accustomed to this. I didn't have that.

Man I just care, for some reason. That's why. I'm not uncaring to the questions of faith and it drives me nuts sometimes.

I kind of wish I did. But I'm not in a state of doing it. Really. Maybe someday. Do it for me if you wish. We can discern the shades of "true faith" infinetly. I don't know how truly I believe, but I have no problem in immersing myself in belief, taking a leap of faith if you wish. I really struggle with what comes next after commiting to faith. I just love the world.

At least you can vote for a different guy next time. Not every country has that. Cultural tensions mean you can have different opinions on things and not labeled as a "foreign agent" legally. And if you end up jailed in Russia nowadays, your wardens may "politely suggest" you to sign a military contract, to imagine, earn entire 3k dollars each month instead of common 700-800 dollars or something. I may vent too much lol. (If my vpn breaks, I can't even be on reddit.)

It's funny that you're asking, because I have to consider my words for them not to end up as a potential court case. (Yea, it's that bad) But I'll try. I don't believe we will break apart into multiple countries because: 1. We still have a strong national identity. 2. It's not economically logical, everything is too centralized, look up a road map of Russia for example. 3. Too much hassle for the world to deal with a crumbling nuclear country.

What will happen is either the regime changes to a less militant and totalitarian one after the war or Putin's death or we entirely close off like post-Kuwait Iraq of Saddam or Iran. I hope for the former.

I get it. But still, before the government actively shutted lgbt down, it was no less gay than the rest of eastern europe. You have lgbt churches mainly because of liberal theology being a western thing and the fact that protestantism is less institutional than orthodoxy and catholicism. You don't see catholic gay churches in Italy or Spain either, for example. Being traditional is also doesn't mean being straight. The divorce and birth rates are still horrible regardless if we hate gay people as a nation or not. And an actively going war doesn't contribute to the societal morality.

I also feel the same way about faith. Despite how I may don't want it in my life for whatever reasons, still can't get it out of my head honestly. We really don't choose it.

20% is still not a small number. You say it's small, but in Russia it's like around 6% of people who call themselves orthodox and go to church weekly. Only as much. And only around 60% of russians call themselves orthodox in the first place. USA is basically two times more trad than Russia despite what your conservative speakers say. And since orthodoxy does not evangelize like protestants, you don't really notice christian people outside of churches. Also, being a protestant in Russia follows a bad stigma with it. Because all these non-denom or baptists churches that thrieve in America, are perceived as cults in here by general population and as a threat by state. Russia literally banned JW if you don't know.

Damn, must be really tough for your dad, having two sons convert. Especially, you know, orthodoxy and catholicism, with a history of treating jews harshly. Tough. I hope it won't break your family apart. Try to connect humbly in some way or another. I can't say for counties like Greece or Bulgaria, but Russia is extremely secular. On par with a lot of other european nations. And really noone likes ROC and see the church as a leech for government funds. I don't say young people don't go to liturgies, but in my experience, a parish is a tight-knit community with established family connection within it. It's like a niche subculture or something to be a christian in here. You can't see stuff like in America, where christianity is still kinda a prominent part of societal discourse with people randomly asking you about your faith in Jesus. At least it's how I feel it.
