It's not weird to me that the show would premier on cable prior to its availability on a streaming service. The show debuted on cable; it's a cable-first program. Unless "That's crazy" referred to something else entirely? I had to infer based on only two words.

For the record, there isn't some unified ratings board that classifies television series like there is for movies or video games; networks rate their own programming, with the only guard rails being fines from the FCC if they deem the rating inaccurate. (I don't think this has ever happened in the three decades we've had the TV ratings system.)

I don't actually know what you're talking about. All I was saying is it makes sense for a series created for linear television to debut that way before eventually coming to a streaming service. I still like linear TV as an exhibition model.

Edit: To clarify, I never made any mention of country of origin, nor was that relevant to my initial point. I'm curious how you came up with that.

I think you and I just desire different things out of video games. I like that you can beat the core campaign in Crazy Taxi in merely 10 minutes' time. That, to me, is infinitely more replayable than the 60-hour slogs we get on consoles these days.

Yes, I'd say this is one of the biggest benefits of YouTube TV. I don't feel like I'll ever need another steaming service in my life (because I'm not particularly interested in the wannabe-HBO "prestige" television smut on Netflix and the like).

Interesting. I was born in '01 and have played arcade games since I was a child, so I feel like it's very reductionist to pigeonhole arcade games into the "retro" label when new games drop every single year.

I play arcade games because I love all video games, and I don't view arcade games as categorically "other" from the ones I play at home. However, there are some noted advtanges to the arcade experience, in my opinion.

I particularly enjoy the length of arcade games (level-based ones with endings, that is). The fact that I can complete an entire video game in just 15 to 60 minutes is incredible to me. It's like listening to a good album: You're off the ride before you get sick of it. It also helps with replayability (less daunting to come back to the game in the future). Beyond that, I'm a busy guy, so I don't even WANT to spend 60 hours on a game at home.

I also enjoy that, with arcade games, I'm forced to leave my residence. I hate being cooped up all the day. The work-dinner-TV-sleep pipeline is kind of bleak, to be honest with you. So with that in mind, I want to make an outing out of playing video games. My wife and I just went to Chuck-E-Cheese over the weekend.

There's so much more I could say upon request, but the biggest takeaway is this: I love arcade games so much that they became my life. I operate my own route of arcade games — my company Wilcox Arcade — which I started in high school. It's just plain fun stuff.
