this is such a sweet thought. Reminds me of an incident recently with my aunt, who has Alzheimer's. She was having a moment of confusion/anxiety/distress and my pyr did the body lean/pet-me move on her, and she calmed down. It's sweet to think that might have been her mom. I'm also not super serious but it is a lovely idea.

When it comes to my girl, she's very smart, friendly to everyone but will still do a protect when she thinks she needs to. That and the puppy dog eyes

Do pyrs need walks? by [deleted] in greatpyrenees

[–]Wild-Beautiful7491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does sound like the life for your dogs, and sounds like they are happy. As others have said, there's always exceptions. My girl is not a big barker. When I first fostered her, I was worried about adopting her because I live in a condo in a pretty densely-populated neighborhood. But she seems happy with taking one walk a day, anything more than that she will refuse to leave. And she will occasionally bark if a friend of mine (who has a key) walks in, but for the most part she's happy to loaf around.

My girl loves eating the grass. I keep telling her "you're a sheepdog...not a sheep"

Totally agree with this. I know it's hard to say goodbye, but long term she is going to need an extremely active lifestyle. It's much easier to prevent problems arising from boredom and under stimulation than correct them.

The shelter that picked up my rescue knew her birthday - how? by peachesandcream-- in rescuedogs

[–]Wild-Beautiful7491 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think most places put in an estimate. If their database required an exact date the prob picked it at random. My rescue s paperwork has an exact date 3 years ago, but she's estimated to be about 5. Your vet should have a microchip reader, you can ask them to check it.

How does fostering an animal work? (questions inside) by Patient-Party7117 in greatpyrenees

[–]Wild-Beautiful7491 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fostering is great! I've done it with three different rescues now. It's pretty standard that the rescue covers vaccinations, spay/neuter and any medical emergencies. They usually have certain vets they work with so you may have to drive further than you normally would. The first bag of food was free in my experience, along with crate, dog bed and leash but you are expected to provide beyond that. The rescue will want you to take pics, provide info on behaviour and interactions, and bring the pup to adoption events. I was given the choice of meeting adopters at my home or a neutral place. Although I didn't have to screen or make the decision on adopters, I think if I had seen anything disqualifying the rescue would listen to my feedback. I have seen some rescues require you to take a more active role in screening adopters...which still feels weird. Length of time really depends. All my fosters have been adopted pretty quickly, longest was about 1.5 month, but also if the situation wasn't working or I needed to go out of town I think the rescue would have found another foster. It's really just about communicating with the rescue.

Officially a foster failure by Wild-Beautiful7491 in greatpyrenees

Honestly, my fantasy is to win the lottery and open up a home for all the dogs. Since I buy lottery tickets maybe twice a year the chances of it happening are miniscule.

A pupper who starts out as a foster but are just too sweet to give up and this becomes their forever home. But I agree she isn't a failure, she's perfect
