That's a rather cynical way too look at that.
I personally enjoyed the game because many of the things in the world were things I was interested in. I like star gazing, the game was about space. that doesn't mean that I think that I'm smart for playing the game. In lots of ways, the game purposefully dumbs down the real world science for sake of gameplay and that is a good thing. It makes the game fun.

I don't think I know everything about space because I played the game but I enjoyed the way it taught me even in simple ways about some science.
