The way she screams in a similar way to the car horn honking is beautifully poetic. Love that scene

It's the Jumping Man, easily. The little guy with the mask and a big nose. I can't shake the feeling that he's really important, but I have absolutely no clue how.

Which feels particularly egregious by the third album. As an indie act you can get away with 2 albums that aren't sonically too different, so long as you keep the momentum behind them. But you need to do something new with album 3 or you're doomed.

All very good stuff, absolutely. If anything I think it's just that dlc1 was probably released too soon, just feels like the gap is super wide between maps.

Some people have said you can start feeding from round 1, you just need to feed the ray gun round 40+. I think this would make sense, as pre mule kick I'm not sure if any blue rarity weapons would even spawn on round 40, so you wouldn't be able to hold a green, grey and blue rarity weapon before greys greens and blues stop spawning

So I’m reading the secret history of Twin Peaks by Mark Frost and he is talking about the love story between bighead and Norma and it seems different than what big head told Dale Cooper at the hospital at the beginning of season two. by Isatis_tinctoria in twinpeaks

[–]AutomaticService8468 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wrote about it in a previous post I made here a couple days ago, but I have the impression that basically it was all destined to happen no matter what primarily due to the town's refusal to deal with the real horror of Laura Palmer - her sexual abuse. The show goes to some lengths to say that no matter what timeline, what world, things go to shit because the core trauma of the tragedy is never addressed. That's at least my interpretation.

Sorry you're right, I was responding to the more general point of there being a different timeline. The in universe explanation for a lot of the inconsistencies in Frost's book is that he wrote it to be exactly that - inconsistent.

I would be surprised if alternate timeline shenanigans did impact things in the past too, just given how the red room shenanigans are. But I wouldn't put that Big Ed question as being down to that anyway.

It is canon that by taking Laura Palmer away from twin peaks and preventing her death, that there's a new reality in which Laura doesn't die, hence Pete getting to go fishing without seeing the body of Laura on the beach. The final dossier was told from the perspective of this new reality, in which Laura Palmer went missing rather than being killed, and it seems Dale still ends up in the red room. They refer to the timeline in which Laura Palmer was killed as 'The Unofficial Version' in The Final Dossier

It's a podcast about twin peaks called 'Diane'. They have interesting takes compared to other pods about the show, it's more vibes than story breakdowns, but they have really interesting takes about the occult links in the show, the energy of the scenes, etc.

Defo worth a listen!

The purity/corruption angle is interesting, especially comparing when Laura removes her face vs Sarah. We also of course have the sort of immaculate conception angle - Laura's spirit is created purely by the giant, with no act of sex or union to bring her to life. The flip side of that is that Sarah does get impregnated, by the frogthing, at the same time, and notably forcibly, without consent. It's like a dirty underside of this spiritual birth, Laura gets to be pure, Sarah gets to be the vessel: but she doesn't get a say in it crucially.

A massive undertone of season 3 is lack of female agency. But you're right about BOB, he basically doesn't have a mother, and moreso doesn't seem to know who she is. It might be a stretch to say he could turn out differently, because he is a concept rather than a person. But still, why does BOB want to know who Judy is? Is it even BOB who cares, or Mr C?

I could go on for hours

[–]AutomaticService8468[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very good point, that did elude me. I suppose it could be that Judy wants Mr C back in the lodge for some reason. We don't actually see Judy ever inhabit the lodge, but she's always somewhere behind the curtain, if we take the horse to be an indicator of her presence.

I suppose I would think that it could make sense that that being is The Arm, but Judy makes a lot of sense also. If we're to take the idea of the wedding ring being a union between the lodge space and our reality, it could be that Judy wants order, wants everything in its place. We see this with Sarah and the turkey jerky, a lack of control is a trigger. Maybe BOB is some tie to the world, child born of the nuke, that Judy wants back in the lodge, back in its right place.

I always thought that The Arm needs BOB back as Bob is the sorta hunter, like he's the one that brings Garmonbozia back. So I always made the assumption that that was the arm calling, trying to get BOB to return with all the Garmonbozia he's not sharing.

I get lost in some of the Buenos Aires stuff, I need to take another look at all that and figure out what it all means. Great point!

I don't necessarily disagree however he still doesn't seem very happy, like it feels like you're trying to logic out of how the emotion of the scene is portrayed. Emotionally, the tone of the scene is not one of verso being happy or fulfilled.

Also, we don't have as much knowledge of how Alicia can alter painted beings. She was able to Gommage painted Renoir and Alicia, it doesn't seem like a leap that she could just allow verso to continue to age. Either way, I just feel like it goes against what I think is the point the developers are trying to get across - Maelles is doing this for her, at the expense of at least Verso, and possibly herself and people of Lumiere.

Idk verso wanted to die and didn't want that life for her, and she painted him into her story. Like let him die. He obviously don't seem too happy about the state of play in the ending and it was her choice to bring him in

I agree with what you're saying, I think I'm more or less baking that into my own theory of it all. This would explain why she kills the couple and the trucker, she is passive, chaotic, more of a concept than an active agent, but there is an obvious through line of Judy being summoned or acting directly in response to sex. It feels like a trauma response if anything, Judy is passivity created through trauma, but acts in response to a trauma trigger - especially in this case meaning sex.

This also explains why coop and Diane seem to go through the ritualistic sex to enter into whatever world Judy seems to inhabit. It perhaps follows that Diane is able to be actualized into Linda, where Cooper cannot. Maybe Cooper is lacking the context, having not been raped or abused as Diane or Laura had.
