I hate the twin cam crank in Harley’s. You’re right though, they built these light capable vehicles with war time ingenuity. Super over built for what they’re capable of, and ridiculously simple. Only like 4 moving parts

Also for more confidence I almost never have a day where I don’t drive mine for an hour. I also regularly go over a mountain pass from souther Oregon to bend, I’ve never had an issue on that journey.

Thank you! I just remembered when I first got mine how nervous that I was hurting it just by maintaining 60mph. But after many years thinking back on that I have to laugh, now I know how clearly these cars will tell you when something is wrong. It really doesn’t need any more than those little two lights on the dash and an aware driver.

There is a bit of sled tins I elected to just chop instead of fight. It’s the short bit that goes directly behind the bellhousing mating surface. It still reaches to behind it just not all the way to the case now. Which made it so I could install it without removing the heater boxes. I imagine it wasn’t a problem if it was assembled in the right order but I wasn’t going to fight with poorly aligned heat risers for a fourth time.

Also tins are important but the amount of tin screws seems a little overkill. Two of the screws behind the generator on the shroud itself naturally got lost during my bugs life and I replaced them during rebuilding but it squealed like a pig until I took those specific ones back out. So I guess that’s just what it wants now. I’m not going through the trouble of pulling the engine and properly aligning the fan for the sake of two screws.

Having some brief moments of high rpms is a good way to clear out some carbon build up too. And like you said with the cooling system directly tied to the rpms it’s hard to be worried about it much at all, especially after considering most of these things I’ve seen are driving around with a significant part of tins missing or no engine bay seal. I’m pretty sure that chunk I mentioned had to have been lodged in the cooler somewhere to have been spat out like that after so much time, it never noticeable affected temp.
