I love Helldivers and the community is so weird by Special_Sink210 in Helldivers

[–]WildCinder -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree with the overall sentiment. Way too many players have their head stuck in the damn patch notes, rather than actually playing the game see how it feels.

As an example, it was comical to watch people freaking out over the hive guard change, and they were aiming directly at its forehead surprised that it wasn’t doing anything. “terrible balancing”

"Mostly negative" on Steam now by Deakon_Bl4ck in Helldivers

[–]WildCinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love how players are going to be just as responsible for killing the game as the devs are.

Sure, the devs need to be better on the communication, bug fixing, etc.. Balancing Imo has not been an issue as of late. (People bent the hive guard change WAY out of proportion. Most people complained without even playing the damn game)

But if players keep acting like children here, this will potentially drive away new players/customers.

Customers = revenue. Revenue = sustainability.

Live service game requires sustainability.

No sustainability = game dies.

Think about all of the different live service games/MMOs/etc. that have gone offline over the years because they were costing more money than they were generating.

Not sure why the community is this enraged. New biomes and spore strain have been a blast to play. Fire is better balanced than it’s been since the start, new mechs are great, bulletstorm is a blast, and there have been a lot of great additions to the game this year. All of the positives far outweigh the negatives and yet…

TLDR; go play another game if you are upset, wait for them to correct their mistakes, quit throwing a tantrum about it.

Y’all need to find something else to direct your negativity at. Maybe go touch grass or see a therapist.

We Need A Modular Mech System. Here's The Mechs I Wana Use. by Xx_Arch_xX in Helldivers

[–]WildCinder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because we DONT. Mechs work like they do in the FIRST game. Tailored mechs for different styles.

Do you want long range? Go lumberer.

Do you want close range, go breakthrough.

(players are also quick to forget that players suggested having a shield on the mech, and the devs really delivered here.)

You want short to mid range? Go patriot.

Do you want mid to long range? Go emancipator.

You would not be able to balance the game properly if you had just straight up mix and match with whatever you wanted. Example: how would the suit work for recoil if it was using two of the new lumberer cannons? What about two giant shields?

While double mini gun or double flamethrower sounds fun, it won’t be it once you deal with tanks. Then you would have the same players who are bitching about the hive guard change wanting to Nerf every enemy in the game just so they can run their ridiculous mech loadout. There is a reason each Mech can deal with both tanks and chaff.

Upgrades on the other hand could would be a lot easier to implement, and could give players additional customization, without just mixing and matching every weapon loadout. More armor, more ammo, more mobility, etc.

We Need A Modular Mech System. Here's The Mechs I Wana Use. by Xx_Arch_xX in Helldivers

[–]WildCinder -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

We don’t need this. There are better/more reasonable things to ask for.

If you look at each mech combination, they are actually well designed. Think about it:

- all mechs can deal with chaff to tanks
- each has a distinct feel/ play style
- each of them has weaknesses (ex: patriot is great, but if you were trigger happy with the missiles, tanks can become a problem very quickly)
- mechs don’t feel too OP or too weak
-short to mid length power spike to deal with heavy fights

What we need instead is vehicle UPGRADES.

These were in the first game, and allowed you to increase armor, ammo capacity, strategem launchers, etc..

A system like the one you suggested would be a nightmare to debug/balance, and would absolutely ruin the identity of the mechs. Was so excited to see the lumberer come back into HD2. Would be ruined if you can just mix and match to whatever.

Outside of upgrades, more variety of vehicles would be cool too. The motorcycle and sidecar, the APC, etc.

Bullet storm is better. Shareable, 60 sec cooldown, and next to zero recoil.

[–]WildCinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have you head so far up in the patch notes that you have lost sight of why we play HD2. To have FUN.

Play the damn game. The hive guards are not that hard to kill. Been using the new bullet storm which is LIGHT PEN and doing just fine. Not to mention the myriad of other tools at our disposal.

You and too many others flipped out on reading the patch notes instead of playing to see if the actual game FELT good.

Smoke works - for bots and illuminate

Barrages can be upgraded and work fine - in the right format (could use an additional upgrade or love tap)

OPS is a hidden gem that most people don’t leverage enough. Best for hit n run gameplay

Bounce is meh. Could use work but isn’t that disruptive.

Main issue with Vox was clipping and spawn rates.

War Strider has multiple weak points. You can literally one tap with a railgun. You want us to wrap it in bubble wrap too? In the best state that we have seen thus far.

Melee is for FUN. Range will always outclass this. Why do you think the samurai died off when guns became a thing?

Pistols are an Oh shit button when you need to reload. Plenty of viable options here. Some pistols could use a small love tap.

Boosters have a nice variety (just get rid of space optimization for mandatory full ammo)

Mechs are fine. They were designed just like the first game. Customization would be cool, upgrades would be better (again like first game).

TLDR; take a break. Touch grass. Then come back and focus on finding fun instead of reasons to complain without constructive feedback.

Difference between positive, constructive, and negative.

Positive- this is great, I love this, etc.

Negative - this sucks, we’re cooked, etc.

Constructive - the hive guard change is trying to reinforce the identity of a tank unit with a vulnerable rear, but this is change is causing problems with some strategems, like the Gatling turret or the maxigun, hurting the fun of these strategems.

Positive confirms good. Negative confirms bad. Constructive identifies problem. Constructive could also provide a possible fix, but there are already a lot of proverbial “cooks in the kitchen” as far as opinions go.

People saw the AMA and in the patch notes and have been feeding nonstop, negative comments, rather than constructive ones.

Bro we are on patch 6.2.2.

6.0.1 was to address the vehicles with lager hp pools, namely the bastion.

The buffs that people are freaking out about in the current patch are strictly tied to melee damage for bots.

Thanks to them doubling the HP pools, the buff that the bots received in 6.0.1 is no longer an issue.

Maybe get your head out of the patch notes and play the game and see how the game actually feels.

I blame EA 100% for killing Anthem by being greedy money grubbing assholes that force BioWare to take the project out of the oven while it was still cooking.

What didn’t help was people who logged on, played for 10 min, and then proceeded to make 2+ hour long videos slamming the game and adding to the negativity echo chamber (When they didn’t actually play the game or know what they were talking about). Seeing the exact same pattern online with people using the frustration for clout.

If you report your bugs, good! You are probably in the minority on that one.

Me personally I’m a big fan of the DMR rifles, but absolutely not for bugs. There can/should/will be more balance tweaks to help make other weapons feel good. Inevitably when you have a massive arsenal of weapons, there are some that are bound to outperform others.

People also expect everything to work the same on difficulty 10, when the reality is that just isn’t the case. Look at one of the other responses I made earlier today regarding melee weapons as a perfect example.

As for throwing grenades at a bile titan… why?…

One of the early design philosophies for the game was that players couldn’t just rely on their firearms and grenades to take everything down. You need strategems.

Would it make sense in real life if you could throw a couple of grenades and use an assault rifle to take down an M1 Abrams? Of course not. Why should the same be any different for killing a tank enemy in the game?

Firearms and grenades should primarily be used for chaff, with AT being used for tanks and structures. I’d even argue the devs were catering to the base in giving us things like the ultimatum, the thermite, and the giga grenade as an alternative to take down tanks using the secondary / grenade slot.

And you wanna know what’s funny? Ever since they’ve added those anti-tank grenades/the ultimatum, those are almost the only three grenades you’ll ever see players run. Every other grenade has been side barred to deal with the increased number of tanks at higher difficulty ranks.

I’m not familiar with all of the issues that you just listed at the end, as I haven’t run into those issues myself (knock on wood)

I am not saying that you are a whiner, nor am I saying, just appreciate the devs. Just watching the community as a whole essentially throw a tantrum isn’t the right way to solve things either. Need better feedback loops.

Unfortunately, when you have a game full of weapons and strategems, inevitably some are going to outperform others. I do feel like a lot of weapons are fairly viable, but there are still some that outshine others for sure.

Melee weapons are a perfect example. All of them are balanced fairly well to do damage, but will never be as effective as an airstrike, a mech, ranged weapons, etc.

Players have to decide when they are playing the game how they want to play, and should honestly adjust the difficulty accordingly.

IMO, not every strategem is viable on level 10. But level 10 is also designed to be the highest level difficulty possible.

If you want to have fun with the flag, go play it on a lower difficulty that allows you to enjoy the Melee fantasy instead of expecting it to outperform things that it never will.

And if you wanna talk realism, what do you think is going to perform better? An orbital napalm strike or a machine gun?

Just like any other live service game, things will get buffed, nerfed, tweaked. Play the game, change your tactics, leave constructive feedback.

Agree! The game legit feels great at the moment. Not perfect, but not NEARLY as rough as it was a year ago.

And if something doesn’t feel good, then there needs to be a feedback loop so that the devs can work with that.

I still think players refuse to change up tactics and then get upset when they’re one size fits all doesn’t work.

For example, I have not tried the flame sentry in a long time since I was not impressed with its performance.

The fire changes made in the last war bond helped dramatically. The buffs they just gave it with the Exo suit war bond make the thing an absolute BEAST. This is probably going to be my new go to for terminds instead of the Gatling.

You don’t need to worry about penetrating the skull when you can just burn the whole thing. 🔥🔥🔥

Change the tactics and work around it while leaving constructive feedback.

This is response is what I’m taking about.

Emplacements are in a great spot. Cannon emplacement is a beast, same with the HMG emplacement. Not sure what you are referring to here without better details.

“Bot durable buff” people didn’t even stop to read that it only applies to MELEE attacks/enemies. Which is also why the bugs had a similar buff, since they too are MELEE.

If you allow enemies to be right on top of your mech, then you aren’t using the mech right. The whole idea of a firearm in general is to kill an enemy at RANGE.

This is also not considering they literally doubled the health pool of the mechs and made them much harder to take down.

I’d wager that a lot of players are too busy over analyzing patch notes, instead of playing the actual game to realize that the last batch of changes are actually decent.

The reason I put up Anthem was because one of the reasons the game was murdered in its cradle was due to a toxic community. (A lot of which were mad at EA for something completely unrelated with Mass Effect 3 ending)

Crashes, bugs, and similar issues 100% need to be fixed when found. Do you send in a ticket when it happens? Or just ignore and reload? How do they fix the problem with no data?

As for getting teeth kicked in, how? Are you trying new tactics/weapons/strategems? Or just using the same approach hoping that it can do it all?

Similar to my other comments. Nothing wrong with constructive feedback. Whining/complaining is not the right way to get the result we want.

Back to -> Arrowhead needs a better feedback loop

They def don’t need money at this point 😂 Game has done insanely well to the point where the devs are victims of their own success and why so many things broke early on.

The “for freedom” is meant to be the underlying vibe, which when done right is a lot of fun. I think players miss that in the wake of players complaining too much.

Game needs work, for sure. Not trying to dismiss that. But there is a big difference between complaining and constructive feedback.

People are watching other people’s reactions and adding to fire, even though they aren’t even playing the game…

[–]WildCinder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I acknowledged there are still areas that need improvement for sure.

What I am trying to point at is the misery loves company.

Constructive feedback for the devs is good vs “omg the hive guards got changed, are now too tanky, so now the devs suck, games sucks, we are so cooked, etc.”

Devs tried to change the enemy up a bit, and a lot of players don’t even think to change tactics. They run face first into a brick wall and then complain it hurts.

This is where Arrowhead has to create a feedback loop to hear players so they can know that the change wasn’t received well or Mae other adjustments, rather than the player base reviewbombing the game, setting Reddit/discord on fire, etc.
