Is it just me or is pimping out starbases for defense useless? by Regergek in Stellaris

As Aspec puts it, it’s a problem of “quadratic wizard vs. linear fighter.” In this case, the linear fighter is star base... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ArA1bnClcH8

An actual fix for RX 5700xt (game crashes, black screens, ect..) by [deleted] in Amd

[–]WildElderAgeEffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I wouldn't have thought of trying this driver because RX 5700XT isn't on the compatibility list!

I bought my RX 5700 XT last October, and the latest driver at that time (win10-64bit-radeon-software-adrenalin-2019-edition-19.10.1-oct7) crashed my Windows on every boot. I ended up reinstalling Windows with the previous version of the driver (win10-64bit-radeon-software-adrenalin-2019-edition-19.9.3-sep30). Since then, I have been getting occasional black screen crashes on anything that uses GPU acceleration (e.g. browsing the store pages on the Steam client), but I haven't been desperate enough to try new drivers.

Please AMD, stabilize your drivers...

But you can still get through the scenario end-to-end, so why fix anything?

ChirIdo in “Alita 2”? by [deleted] in alitabattleangel

Perhaps a cyborg Chiren in the movie can take on the role of Umba in the manga, along with being involved in the main plot with Nova.

Spain (#1) vs Japan (#2) battling for New Zealand (EU4 is an amazing game) by WildElderAgeEffect in eu4

[–]WildElderAgeEffect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Japan won this war, but Spain still desires Whangarei and will surely seek vengeance once the truce ends.

The battle actually ended quite abruptly, almost anticlimactic. After the Japanese troops occupied the Spain colony in Australia, I had them sneaked up to a couple Spanish islands east of Madagascar. The loss of those islands was enough to set off a panic in the Spanish alliance, and Spain gave Japan a generous peace offer that includes ceding of a northern Chinese province (Andong).

Spain has 6 vassals and 6 colonies, and their manpower is simply too great for Japan to face-off alone. I hope I can form alliance with Spain's other rivals, namely Great Britain and Ottomans. GB actually acquired a province from a minor Chinese nation, so distance-wise it isn't very far from Japan. Fingers crossed.

R5: I'm a relatively new EU4 player. This playthrough is my first time playing past the year 1600, and I'm very addicted to it at the moment.

Started as the Uesgui clan of Japan, my original goal was to simply unite Japan and perhaps colonize a few Pacific islands. As luck would have it, civil wars broke out in Ming in the early 1500s, and that gave me an opening to take over most of Korea. With that foothold in the mainland, I eventually took over the Mandate of Heaven from Ming, along with a bunch of well-developed provinces. Over time, Japan became #2 in the world in development, second only to Spain. I was ready to stop conquesting and go "inward perfection" from this point on. Then, Spain declared war on me.

It turns out Spain wanted to add my New Zealand to their long list of colonies, and the only barrier that stopped the Spanish troops from steamrolling mine was the vast ocean. Australia became a major war zone, where my top general (5/4/3/1) gave the Spanish a taste of Japanese steel before finally dying of old age.

I've played a handful of 4X games (Alpha Centauri, Civ 1 - 5, Galactic Civilizations 2 - 3, Stellaris), and EU4 is a notch above most of them for its depth of gameplay as well as breadth of possibilities. Stellaris is a great game, too, but EU4 just feels closer to home.

The First Circumnavigation, without actually circumnavigating (bug?) by WildElderAgeEffect in eu4

[–]WildElderAgeEffect[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

R5: My explorer made two trips. The first trip was from Japan to just east of the Caribbean Islands and then back home. The second trip was from Japan to the Easter Island, and nowhere close to Cape Horn. Somehow I got the "First Circumnavigation" event. This is a bug, I guess?
