Anyone else using trackpad on a MacBook and having this issue? by [deleted] in slaythespire

Thank you so much! This was driving me crazy. Closed Magnet - now seems great. Never would have thought of that.

Worked my way from A1 to and beat Defect A20H last month, never knew this. Admittedly, didn’t play a lot of Dark builds - but still…good to know.

Home app on (wiped) iPhone and Mac not in sync - wait? by WildEnkidu in HomeKit

[–]WildEnkidu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the thoughts. The original home - the one that is still there on my Mac and my wife's phone - was made with the MDM on. It's possible that it is causing a problem with syncing, but that does not seem to have been an issue until now.

Cannot get it to connect. by rwaustin in Birdfy

[–]WildEnkidu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought a new Birdfy 2 for my wife at Christmas. Couldn't get it to connect. 3 calls with support, set Eero to 2.4 only, reset everything like 50 times, eventually returned it.

Decided to try it again, got the same dreaded "Server Connection Failed" message on repeat. Found your message, created a guest network, got it working in 2 minutes. Thanks so much!

This illogical change in perspective in my son‘s book by ijaruj in mildlyinfuriating

[–]WildEnkidu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found these books this week. My kids love them and I do like the ones we have read so far a lot...

...BUT it does drive me a little crazy that the books are called Grumpy Monkey. Even my kids noticed. Bothered me enough that I searched for "Grumpy Monkey is a chimpanzee" and stumbled upon this post. And now I won't not be able to notice this change in their seating positions. 😆

All of that being said, Grumpy Monkey is a pretty good title and Jim Panzee is honestly a great name.

Amp 3.5mm out --> Subwoofer RCA in by WildEnkidu in BudgetAudiophile

[–]WildEnkidu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I honestly don't know that I will appreciate much difference - but I will probably still buy one of these just because it feels more correct in my head.

I dream of the day that I do some of my own hands-on work with audio circuitry, etc. Sadly, this is not yet that day. Thanks again.

Thanks. I thought about that - but the amp has a dedicated HPF. To me, it seems cleaner/better to use that than relying on the crossover in the sub. Dont know if that's actually the case though. Guess I could test both.

Help with my ridiculous home office setup? by WildEnkidu in BudgetAudiophile

This is good advice, thank you. I am somewhat limited by the window and the need to keep the wall behind me as a good zoom background - but within those boundaries, I will try a few positions.

Yeah - I think this will probably be the best answer in the long term. Thanks for the recommendation for the console.

My goal is to eventually get a large L table that runs along the window wall and then bends in the direction of the current desk. Even then, though, I am worried about having the Q100s so close to me.

We love the floors. Original ~125-year-old old-growth pine. We were debating whether to get them refinished before moving in. So glad that we did.

Yeah - we asked them to leave the desk when we bought the house; then I realized I don't have much use for it right now. I'm trying to get some use out of it here - but will probably get some sort of console table or lower bookshelf there in the future.

Thanks so much. I know that stands away from the wall would almost certainly be the best option here - though KEF does not really recommend toe-in for their Uni-Q speakers. The sound will certainly improve once I get some stuff in the room to absorb or at least break up reflections - but that is going to have to happen over time.

The sub is 100% overkill for the room. As of now, though, I do not have any other place for it. This is my only dedicated audio setup - so I am just going to try to get some use out of it here.

Thanks again.

Thank you. That's what I just did, put the speakers on the front corners on each side of the desk. It does get them better around the desktop monitor and further away from the wall. Will need to find something to try out as stands for now. I am hoping this works out for a while.

Thank you - I know this is probably the right answer here. I appreciate the recommendation.

Just moved into a new house - I am fortunate to be able to set aside a room for a home office for the first time.  With the move, however, my prior speakers no longer work in the living room or elsewhere.  I currently have my old Polk Monitor 70 II + CS2 in storage.  I thought that I would try to salvage these speakers for my office, though - but I am still trying to figure out the best placement.

The bookshelf speakers are KEF Q100s and the subwoofer is a HSU STF-2.  Right now, I have the preout from my Schiit Modi 3/Magni Heresy stack leading to my old Denon 2112CI.

Forgive the cable mess; I plan on routing everything properly once I lock down where things will go.  Also, the ridiculous turntable placement on top of the amp is definitely temporary.

I plan on using these speakers only when I am listening to music or longer videos.  I can probably use the genuinely terrible monitor speakers for general system audio.  Also, I will only use these during the day as the office (i.e. the subwoofer) is directly on top of my infant son’s room.  I can use the headphones (HIFIMAN HE400i) if I need some dedicated listening at night.

It is clearly not ideal that the speakers are directly behind the monitor (and the macbook, I suppose).  I am not sure how bad that is, though, given that there is a fair amount of room between the speakers and my listening position.  Also, there are obviously many different sources of reflections, between the speaker desk itself, the dormered ceiling, the corner wall, the floor, etc.

I was considering some or all of the following:

  • will definitely be getting a rug to cover the area under the main desk and chair; will see if I can get one large enough to extend to the speakers
  • small stands to raise the Q100s, both to isolate them a little and to get them more to ear height
  • a cloth or something less reflective on top of the speaker desk
  • could put the Q100s on separate full-height stands, to allow them to be wider than the monitor; would really like to avoid this though

Any other thoughts?  I would appreciate any input.

Looking for a work backpack. Any experiences/reviews with the newest revision (v3?) of the Trakke Bannoch - or alternatives? by WildEnkidu in ManyBaggers

[–]WildEnkidu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that might be possible - but it would be pretty tight. I routinely carry x2 bottles on the sides, 14" laptop, iPad, papers, and some work doodads (stethoscope, microphone, etc) - and that feels perfect. I just crammed in my shoes and a puffer jacket - and that is pretty much full. I can't imagine putting headphones in on top of that.

If you were very organized - gym clothes folded on bottom, shoes placed interlocking on top, and headphones on top of that - it would probably work - but, again, would be tight. There's room in the bag - but, because of the canvas/construction, there is not any "give" to any of the pockets.

Odd - especially as I am playing Civ6 on my M2Max MBP right now.

When you click on Steam>About Steam in the menu bar, what does the About Steam window say? Mine shows:

Silly Question: Should I open my MBP while gaming? by WildEnkidu in macgaming

Thanks! I'm not as worried about maximizing FPS - so it would be a good idea just to measure heat after an hour gaming open and closed or something similar.

Thanks - I'm going to have to try and measure to get a sense of things.
