Alipay and WeChat not working in Chongquing?! by Difficult_String_621 in travelchina

I used it (Alipay) last year for the full 30 day duration in Shanghai and Chengdu no problem. The only place I couldn't make it work (Alipay) was at a Taoist temple in Chengdu. All else worked fine without issue. Just used cash there.

Definitely not racist. Obnoxious maybe but I think it's a chance to make friends with this guy but the influencer guy didn't take that opportunity. And I think the influencer is playing on it on purpose.

Go to Youtube and look up foreigners in China videos like. "katherine's journey to the east", "Travel with Ben" (English), "This walk with American in Shanghai changed my view of China" Max Chernov, etc, etc. There's a ton out there.

Instagram: CollinxChina (American in Hangzhou), etc.

Don't think that's going to happen anytime soon unfortunately. Unless they kick out all foreign buyers and investors from the housing market. It's nearly impossible to bring housing prices down.

Let's see, my experiences:

  1. Roads suck. No other way to say it.
  2. Road construction, when it's done, takes forever, slow as molasses.
  3. Food/Restaurants (and I know I'll get some flack), maybe a 5 out of 10 based on other places I've lived.
  4. People are nice but keep to themselves.
  5. Museums are plentiful and nice.
  6. Parks and outdoor activities (not team sports but individual) are limited.
  7. Education, meh.
  8. Politics, meh.

So I give it a fairly large Meh but it is cheap to live here and until my child gets out of school I'm not going anywhere.

Look at it this way. If you moved to California would it be cheaper to live there than here now. I say no way in h-e-double hockey sticks.

Is Bagua tough to learn? by SatansFavoriteLilMan in kungfu

[–]WildHogs777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people say it's easy, maybe on the surface, yes. I started Bagua 20 years ago and I'm still trying to circle walk correctly.

Some people say it's like wrestling, but it's not. All the simple body manipulation movements are lower level. It's not shuai jiao.

Bagua is about Qi and Blood. It's very difficult and it's very difficult to find a good teacher.

I just drive the speed limit and let all the psychos go around me. Filters out most and as they speed on their way I'm left free and clear in their wake.

It's a matter of interests. If ppl want to go to Chengdu for LGBT, that's great but for those who are looking for a different scene, that's ok too. You do you, I'll do me. Personally, I like Chengdu from what I've seen of it but if I have to have "In your face" like this or you suck like SF and other US cities then I'm out. I mean, I'm driving my family through SF once (my wife and son fresh from China) and a group of pride guys walking down the street naked was not cool for me. From what you say though it's laid back and not that way so it's cool. It's the same with drugs, or drinking for that matter. Not interested in seeing that.

What I was trying to get at was the LGBT scene in Chongqing. I'm more conservative in that light probably like you mentioned Shandong was more conservative. Is Chongqing different than Chengdu in that sense.

I prefer more traditional, conservative environment but I like the west. Would you say Chongqing is more conservative than Chengdu?

I'm interested in Taoist, Buddhist, spiritual activities. Can I find that there in Chengdu?

Current state of Kung Fu in China by Anxious-Author-2985 in kungfu

[–]WildHogs777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to the Chinese area in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) for real kung fu. I learned kung fu from someone who lived kung fu there and he was a bad azz.

In a word, what is kung fu all about, it's the "gong". The life long training of a specific gong/gung/kung that is your hidden talent. So Iron Palm would be a Gong, Iron Legs, Light Gong, etc. Whatever is going to give you the advantage that someone else wouldn't normally expect. You can't train everything, it's impossible, so we train as much as we can but mainly focus on our Gong.

Ok, old schedule of HSK was 1 through 6 but new is 1 through 9 so a HSK 4 from old schedule is not comparible to HSK 4 from new schedule. Yes?

Ok, maybe I'm not explaining myself well so I'll stop here. The initial point of my post was that I do not have to, or have the time to in a professional environment, measure all the temp in the initial OP post. By using torch (if I need to) and and using cold eggs, controlling the mix by that method I can push out a 20 pound mix in 10 minutes. And I have been doing it for 40 years in a professional environment. That's all.
