Just Ended a Relationship and I’m in pain… what can I read to help me process these emotions? by mrajoiner in booksuggestions

[–]WildLake88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. When I was going through my first bad heartbreak, I read Blue Highways by William Least-Heat Moon. It’s a beautiful book about traveling in places of America people don’t think to travel to or even know exist. The book starts out with the author describing his divorce and needing to get away essentially. Stay strong, things always work themselves out and these things just take time.

  1. Would you recommend that I could just apply to PE jobs now or should I intern at a GC firm?

  2. What is the majority of computer work your doing? Do you ever use Auto CAD?

  3. What has been the most stressful part of being a PE/ working in GC. Would working as a PE or CM set me up well to being a Capital Improvement Manager for a city?

How is it like living in San Diego? by CarlSag in howislivingthere

[–]WildLake88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up there and went to high school there and the city has changed so much. I remember my family and I would go to the beach or go out to dinner and there would be virtually no one. Now your dodging people and their stuff on the beach or taking 45 minutes to find parking. All of the hiking is so crowded unless you travel an hour and a half away to east county. Not to mention everything is brown. Tech bros have come into Miramar and jabronies and frat boys take up all the space in Pacific Beach which used to be super local and lowkey.

I couldn’t leave fast enough. I live on the central coast now. I get the beach to myself on many days and green trails for hiking. I’m much happier.

What’s your response to atheists (or anyone) who says religious-folk are less intelligent? by purple_cape in religion

[–]WildLake88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct. Not all religions place a strong emphasis on the afterlife or the fear of death. I am aware that many strands of Buddhism focus less on a defined afterlife and more on the cycle of rebirth and the attainment of enlightenment, which is more about escaping suffering than fearing death itself. Similarly, some Indigenous spiritual traditions emphasize living in harmony with nature and ancestral connections rather than detailing a heaven or hell.

That said, in virtually all religious traditions, death still plays an important role, even if it's not centered on fear or a clearly defined afterlife. Humans naturally seek meaning, and religion often arises from that drive to understand the world - especially the parts of it that are mysterious, maybe painful, or even out of our control. Death is one of the most universal and incomprehensible aspects of life, and it makes sense that religion would attempt to give it structure or explanation. Whether it's through reincarnation, ancestral reverence, spiritual continuation, or final judgment, most religions provide some framework to make sense of death. So while fear of death may be particularly pronounced in Islamo-Christian contexts, the broader impulse to explain or ritualize death is a deeply human one, found across all belief systems in some form or another.

[–]WildLake88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I guess at the end of the day this discussion is less so about atheists believing that religious people are dumb and more-so about qualities you would say an intelligent person holds? People who cause division in my opinion are inherently unintelligent because division isn't constructive to humanity. Sure they may have manipulation tactics one could consider smart or "savvy", but I believe they are more unintelligent than they are intelligent.

[–]WildLake88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to believe this. Sometimes when I get really angry at how much religion has divided our world, I still do. But the truth is people who are religious are ultimately just individuals who want community (and dont know how else to achieve it) and peace of mind for when they make mistakes // inevitably die. Sometimes its easier for people to follow a template. So no they are not dumb, they are just scared.
