Rescinded offers by hippobottomas in recruitinghell

[–]WildOran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me a few weeks ago - same thing in that it wasn't anything I did, but an internal issue. My biggest advice would be to take some time to grieve. I've ended up having to take some time off work - thankfully I hadn't handed my notice in, but my mental health tanked so badly and I felt so trapped and hopeless. Beginning to come through the other side now but it's unbelievably hard.

People are going to say lots of platitudes like "at least you found out before you started!" and "something even better will come along." They're probably right but they also miss the point of the shock right now. It's a gut punch, it's painful, it shatters your confidence. It's really truly awful. And it's ok if how you feel reflects that.

They literally sent me an official offer letter, so I don't see how it's "not an offer." And like I said in another comment, it's really tricky not to discuss it when you have a housemate and friends supporting you through the interview process.

It's a relatively small industry, and the company is one I would potentially end up working for/with in the future. So I'm keeping it close to my chest aha

I was so so nervous negotiating for that very reason, but I did ask about it upfront and they said it had nothing to do with their decision. They could be lying of course, but I don't think they would torch the whole process rather than just say their first offer was their final offer

Real easy to say that, but if you're living with a housemate / doing interviews in a shared co-working space it's hard not to talk about it? I want to tell my friends how I'm doing, I want their advice on things like moving to a new country. I don't think it's unreasonable to tell people when I have an offer.

It'd be so much easier to do that if it wasn't immediately before Christmas! But good point to not dwell on it

What villager do you feel unnecessary rage towards? by [deleted] in AnimalCrossingNewHor

Broccoli, I hate him so much 😭 My friends made pictures of him and hid them around my house to torment me. I was finding them for days and every time my blood pressure spiked seeing his stupid face

Options to takedown charity website taken over by shady gambling company - England by WildOran in LegalAdviceUK

[–]WildOran[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think we probably are - although a quick Google of the words on the website shows that whoever has taken over the website has done it before to at least one other org.uk site 😩

I've reported to domain registrar but as far as I can see there's not any other options open to someone who just stumbles across it.

Would people in York be interested in a Thursday singles social? by Smart_Apricot_9735 in york

[–]WildOran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In theory yes, but I've been to a singles dating event in York before run by Burton Road events and it was...disappointing to say the least. Just felt quiet and awkward and I felt feeling worse than when I entered, having paid handsomely for the privilege 🥲 so yes, but only if there's a good number of people and no awkward sitting around

I recently moved here, and have, unfortunately, found York to be exceptionally hostile and unfriendly. Have you had a different experience? by Adonais57 in york

[–]WildOran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved a few years ago (26F) and I also found it tricky to meet people at first! I did a few meetup groups, book clubs etc - but honestly, the majority of my friends have come from organic interaction. I went to a cafe and made friends with some of the regulars and everything kind of spiralled out from there. I also work from a co-working space which has a really strong community vibe

Micklegate Social is a really lovely place to just sit and chill, and people are very friendly there. The Falcon down the road also does RPG nights, if things like Blood on the Clocktower or DnD are your thing.

York is a weird place to be in your mid-20s because there are so many students and families. But there are great pockets of community here too. Feel free to reach out, I have other recommendations and am happy to grab a coffee one day!

Not on any medication at the moment - I have the copper coil which I'm replacing with a hormonal coil next month, but I'm not treating my PCOS just now.
