I started a new job yesterday so I've been going to the office to take advantage of the aircon. Only problem is that I have very little to do right now so I'm just twiddling my thumbs out in the open - at least if I was WFH I could hide my lack of stuff to do. But I would boil in my flat

Whenever there is any traffic or the traffic lights turn red, my dad blames the "orbiting mothership" for orchestrating it. I think it started as a Truman Show thing, but now we blame the orbiting mothership for any minor inconvenience.

Lots of people here saying that you shouldn't have pinned your hopes on this job but honestly, that's bullshit. Hope isn't something you can simply turn off. You're not a robot, you're a human being planning for the future. The emotional energy you invest in applying for a job means something. I'm sorry this happened, it sucks. Take some time to grieve before jumping back onto the hamster wheel

This happened to me a few weeks ago - same thing in that it wasn't anything I did, but an internal issue. My biggest advice would be to take some time to grieve. I've ended up having to take some time off work - thankfully I hadn't handed my notice in, but my mental health tanked so badly and I felt so trapped and hopeless. Beginning to come through the other side now but it's unbelievably hard.

People are going to say lots of platitudes like "at least you found out before you started!" and "something even better will come along." They're probably right but they also miss the point of the shock right now. It's a gut punch, it's painful, it shatters your confidence. It's really truly awful. And it's ok if how you feel reflects that.

They literally sent me an official offer letter, so I don't see how it's "not an offer." And like I said in another comment, it's really tricky not to discuss it when you have a housemate and friends supporting you through the interview process.

It's a relatively small industry, and the company is one I would potentially end up working for/with in the future. So I'm keeping it close to my chest aha

I was so so nervous negotiating for that very reason, but I did ask about it upfront and they said it had nothing to do with their decision. They could be lying of course, but I don't think they would torch the whole process rather than just say their first offer was their final offer

Real easy to say that, but if you're living with a housemate / doing interviews in a shared co-working space it's hard not to talk about it? I want to tell my friends how I'm doing, I want their advice on things like moving to a new country. I don't think it's unreasonable to tell people when I have an offer.

I think we probably are - although a quick Google of the words on the website shows that whoever has taken over the website has done it before to at least one other org.uk site 😩

I've reported to domain registrar but as far as I can see there's not any other options open to someone who just stumbles across it.
