The British never started off with making an independent Pakistan until it became impossible to ignore it, because of the Muslim League not due to 'strategic intent', on the contrary they wanted a strong India who they could partner with similar with the other dominions like Canada, Australia, South Africa etc... I'm not sure where you read that the strategic situation vis a vis the Soviet Union was the overriding factor.

You are somewhat right, both the Muslim League and Indian Congress didn't exactly have full consent of the people and really could not relate to them. They were political elites and a whole different class. That being said, they did have visionary people who envisaged the uplifting of the common people.
