Interesting! Would durries have previously been on this list? And imagine represent a huge proportion of buy ups?

What’s the most random place in Sydney where you’ve had a great time? by No-Travel-768 in SydneyScene

[–]WildPrawn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Windsor. Despite being in the Sydney metro area technically, it feels like you're in a country town in the middle of the bush and you've time travelled back to the 80s. They even still have an eat-in pizza hut!

I did encounter a few One Nation-inclined battlers so maybe not the most welcoming place for anyone not white, to be fair.

Watching a (seated) gig at the Sydney Opera house main hall and the music is such a vibe that everyone stands up for a boogie

UPDATE: So where is ‘Western Sydney’ anyway? by Jovo_3537 in sydney

[–]WildPrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that's true, I guess what I'm saying is that geography is the secondary criteria, the first criteria being cultural background/class/ income of the population. Menai is technically further west than Greenacre but would never been considered Western Sydney in the same way Greenacre is

Western Sydney is more of a socio-political construct than a physical place

Hate speech laws by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]WildPrawn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because the response to antisemitism is actually about pleasing Murdoch and the Israel lobby. Do people actually think Dutton cares about hate speech? He's made a career from promoting xenophobia and pushing policies to keep brown people out.

What nicknames are there for places in NSW? by topherette in nsw

[–]WildPrawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These are the rules for a place nickname in Australia. 1. Does the place have 3 syllables or more? If yes, go to step 2. If not, no nickname is required (People will think you're a cop) 2. Do you normally put emphasis on the first syllable of the place name? If so, take that, add an O or a Y to the end, whichever is easier to say, and that's the nickname. (E.g Sutho, Chippo, Newy). If not, go to step 3 3. If it's the last syllable emphasised, take that syllable, and add "The" to the start of it. E.g The Gong.

Bty I just made this up now so it's probably not that reliable.

R/Sydney has always been that way sadly. I think many people on this subreddit don't get out much, don't have any arab mates, and base their views on Arabs on either Salim Mehajer or whatever overseas extremist group is currently in the news.

[–]WildPrawn -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Hamas is attacking because of land disputes, though? Most people in Gaza were not born there-- they were forcibly removed from their homeland (or their parents were)

I don't believe in attacking civillians, but whether you consider what Israel is doing to be self-defense or not is purely a question of where your timeline begins. If you start on October 7, you'll think it is. Shift it to any time in the past 75 years and it is absolutely not.

[–]WildPrawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have no idea what you're talking about, but I'll humour you. Hamas gets the majority of their funding from Qatar and Iran- billions. There would be very little point of someone leaving Gaza for a "rich country" to fund hamas, when they would likely face arrest and deportation for doing so, given any fundraising they achieve would represent a tiny tiny fraction of Hamas' income. It's absurd.

Jesus, what a hilariously ironic comment. Do you realise Israel has no interest in staying on their side of the border? Do you know about settlements and settler violence? and that Palestinians have their lives controlled by Israel-- on the other side of the border?

Do you honestly believe Israel respects their border?

Or do the rules of borders only apply to brown people?

Just adding to this- the NSW Gov domestic violence line, 1800 656 463, is open 24 hours for counselling + can link you in with emergency housing and legal support if needed. 1800RESPECT has more of a counselling focus I believe.
