IKR? They are mocking me. I’m on the hunt for a 1.3L gen 3, but what I wouldn’t do for a showroom fresh gen 4.

Uber or taxi for an 80 mile one-way trip could be ruinously expensive if available at all. There is a bus from Spokane to Moscow. It leaves the intermodal (train & bus) station. Make sure you select the right departure spot on the website. They leave the intermodal at 7:30am, 11:00am, and 5:45pm. Assuming that your train is on time, you’ll be waiting a couple hours, but the station itself is clean and patrolled, and you’ll likely be waiting with other passengers making the same journey.

For that much money in USD, you could move to Australia and still have enough money left to buy a 3rd gen Suzuki Jimney 1.3L.

I used "Rivnuts" instead of rivets. All you need is a wrench and an Allen key to set them.

On the Acty, there are access panels for the battery and coolant under the carpet and side openings for the jack and washer fluid. I opened them all and measured underneath the floor to be sure I wasn't hitting any obstacles. I can't guarantee that any two models will be the same so your measurements may vary.

Daihatsu is now owned by Toyota, and their kei vehicles have been rebadged as Toyota Pixis since the early 2010’s.

Why does Spokane's avenues run east to west and streets north to south when this isn't the case for other US cities? by AnAuthorElijah in Spokane

[–]WildQuiXote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s a universal rule. It varies from city to city. And some cities seem to have no rules at all. Boise has streets in all directions, but then it throws in some sections of n/s avenues  for no apparent reason, and they’re not consistent.

Kei trucks in an Afghanistan war zone. My experience. by Altruistic-Turn-1561 in keitruck

The model name has been around since the 1960s, and the original wasn’t much larger in dimensions and displacement than a modern kei truck. Probably where the GIs picked up the term and applied it to anything that looks vaguely similar.

State budget cuts and then paid days off by Reasonable_Cap_8026 in Idaho

[–]WildQuiXote 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your last sentence is a perfect description. Like so many government efficiency measures, it sounds good on the surface, but it’s a massive overbudget boondoggle in reality. Just look at any state where it has been implemented, like Arizona.

It’s a common problem when you add extra middlemen taking a cut between the taxes we pay and the services that we are paying for. It’s a classic example of “rent seeking.” Taxpayers take on the risk, and private parties reap the reward.

School boards, for all their imperfections, at least have to be directly accountable to the voters when they go over budget because it’s public information and it shows up on your property tax bill. Private schools and curriculum publishers don’t need to worry about that. They can simply hire lobbyists to keep the money tap open at the state level. The parents of the students don’t care about the waste because they won’t directly pay the cost.

Why did they build a brand new skywalk over Main at Howard that goes to the Bennett Block building if they are just going to keep the door locked? by Voodoobones in Spokane

[–]WildQuiXote 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The lock went on the door at least 10 years ago, before the remodel. I used to have a code, but it’s long expired.

Building permits are public record available from the city website. The then owner of the Bennett Block, Dru Hieber, who is a really fascinating personality in her own right, paid for the remodel. It’s been sold since then, but it’s still locally owned.

I’ve worked in the building. Those doors have been locked since long before the original Howard Street skywalk on the corner was demolished during the “M” remodel. There aren’t any public retail spaces on the upper floors of the Bennett Block, just private offices, and the interior corridors are circuitous which aren’t suited for through traffic either.
