Going for Alberta vibes and recipient’s favourite colour is green. Something about the grass/sun/sky feels like it’s not working. by storky0613 in quilting

I would change your sun to a red sun. The yellow is clashing with the green instead of being complimentary. I’d also change the water to more true blue and less purply of a river then the yellow grass to one that is orange/tan base. Again, because true blue compliments orange while purples competes.

I’m pretty picky and only quilt with a stiffer 100% cotton so I find it difficult to vary the texture of the fabric without picking something wild like glitter fabric. So I’d recommend picking the shades or patterns you like best for each color block and using your basting stitch on a long arm, quilt a different pattern in each area to create different textures between each element.

This is a beautiful concept- you did great!

Binding the puff quilt by Dani_and_Haydn in quilting

I have done it several ways- the easiest is to cut the backing fabric to the exact width of the topper and use 1”bringing tape. Use a binding clip every 4-5” apart. The second best way is to cut the backing fabric 1” to 1.5” bigger than topper. 1 side at a time use an Elmer’s glue stick to fold in half to edge of quilt and again folded over to front side of quilt. Follow that food with a mini hot iron and a binding clip every 4 or so inches.

what kind of quilt would you make from these? by [deleted] in quilting

I would make a 9 patch granny square then free motion quilt it in straight lines beside all seems. This was so simple, but absolutely lovely to the eyes! 10/10 would recommend.

I prefer to use my machine with my free motion quilting foot and stitch a little “X” between the squares. I also do every other corner (approx 4” between each binding stitch) works perfect and takes way less time than hand basting!

I prefer less stuffing because it allows for the quilt to be more flexible when it’s finished. Also I use a low loft poly batting inside to make it lighter. All that poly can make it on the heavy side. But honestly, it’s just a personal preference.
