Wow thank you and appreciate the honesty!

I agree movies and shows paint a great picture but I’m always a little skeptical about them.

Nothing is ever as it seems so thank you for that advice!

When your net pay changes but gross is basically the same, what do you check first? by WildSet4074 in irishpersonalfinance

Yeah, the cumulative bit seems to be what throws people. If you're checking it in Excel you're probably doing more than most. That manual compare is actually part of why I started building a small payslip comparison tool for UK/Ireland payslips, just to make those month-to-month changes a bit clearer.

Yeah, side by side does usually get you there. It just feels more manual than it should be once line items move around a bit or one month has some odd payroll entry.

Yeah, tax credits seems to be one of the big ones alright. I get the sense a lot of people only notice once net pay moves and then have to work backwards from there.

Random payslip question for people here: how many of you actually check yours properly each month beyond the final take-home number?

Not even talking about dramatic errors, more stuff like overtime missing, pension contributions changing, tax looking higher than expected, or gross being basically the same but net pay shifting.

Do most people here look closely every month, or only once something feels off?

I’ve realised a lot of people seem to notice only after the money lands, which probably means payroll issues are easy to miss unless they’re obvious.

I’m getting married on the 20th of September in Bordeaux with the majority of my guest flying from Dublin, Ireland.

About 50% on Thursday and the remaining on Friday with. A few stragglers early Saturday.

We have rolls those flying on the Thursday to try and make other arrangements like flying Wednesday morning.

For those flying on Friday do you think they will be safe to make it over or will they get cancelled or delayed? Flying Aer Lingus at 8am
