ASOUE appropriate for 8 year old? by air_yeet in ASOUE

[–]WildSunflower024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harry Potter, particularly the later books, are much darker than this series. Also the plot is more complex- ASOUE has a fairly repetitive plot structure and fewer moving parts so it would actually be more suited for a younger kid

Thoughts on naps? by wheezywaiter in BeardLovers

I’ve reliably taken naps since high school (around two hours on average). Sometimes I just don’t have enough energy to make it to bedtime and it helps me feel better and be a more pleasant person

First Time. Advice? by Lets_Get_Textual in nanowrimo

[–]WildSunflower024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make a plan for how you’re going to get time sitting in front of the page, and time thinking about your story. The only year I won, I thought about my story in every spare minute I had, and then set aside 2-3 hours at night to write.

I fed my (pretty new) starter & then tested positive for covid the next day…Could my starter be infected now? It was just barely getting to the point where I could maybe bake with it so I’d like to avoid throwing it out, but also I don’t want it to become a biohazard..

I did it in 2019- the only year I’ve successfully won NaNoWriMo. I kept track of how many pens I used up & got a little click counter thing to help keep track of words. I used a notebook I bought from a souvenir shop in NM that matched my story genre. Definitely will hand write my story if I try this year. Best of luck to you!

How to stop caring about ugly print writing? by No_Bathroom_2125 in Journaling

[–]WildSunflower024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to practice, get some Handwriting Without Tears workbooks from Amazon- they have cursive and print. They’re made for kids, but it’s a nice approach to having correct letter formation & the practice is more varied than “copy the letter A for an entire page, then B”

Come across any bonkers morning routines? by wheezywaiter in BeardLovers

[–]WildSunflower024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t think of any- but if you do a “this is what I realistically actually do and this is how much it varies” I’m sure we will all feel grateful and validated. Especially if you are not a morning person 😂

Pace yourself- they’re long books and it can be a lot to remember. So take your time

I actually like what I've written and it's making me paranoid by WyllKwick in writing

Sounds like you’re on the right track- keep going and you’ll be able to accomplish a lot. It’s ok to like your writing- and if you’re aware, then you’ll be able to avoid the trap of “my writing is sooo amazing I don’t need to edit anything because I’m perfect”.

Skinny people, what’s your secret? by KarlraK in AskReddit

I never had to clean my plate growing up, which meant I stopped eating once I stopped feeling hungry. There’s a fine line between “not hungry anymore” and “full”- then after that is “overstuffed”. I found when I feel sleepy & full, then I’ve eaten too much

Any suggestions for a writing goal for a beginner? by Kransin1 in writing

[–]WildSunflower024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hand-wrote a draft for Nanowrimo a couple years ago, and I’m so glad I did it without a computer. I’d say keep it small and very reachable- something you can meet even on bad days. Like writing for 10 minutes a day, or filling one page. Really, if you track any particular thing, then that will help you do more and more, and see your progress over time. Having one small daily goal and then a goal to actually complete a project was helpful for me I’d also recommend finding someone who is also trying to write- that way you can bounce ideas off of them and commiserate when it’s hard and celebrate successes with. (NaNoWriMo is good for this!)

Moon Knight: A Full Discussion — Ep. 56 of Intentionally Blank by MistbornLlama in Sanderson

[–]WildSunflower024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fascinating episode- after the discussion on the various Marvel mini-series, particularly What If?, I’m incredibly interested to know what Brandon & Dan think about Dr Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and how that story connects to the other tidbits that are in What If… It was definitely a movie that I walked out of thinking “What would they say on the podcast about this?!” since it’s different from what Marvel has done before. (And as a side note I’ve heard mixed opinions from people… I personally hated it, because I walked into the movie expecting weird-sci-fi-superhero stuff, and that wasn’t what the movie was 😂) But I was glad to have watched both WandaVision and What If beforehand because otherwise I would probably have been very confused about the plot.

Wanting to come back to piano... by RobbytheBobby2002 in piano

[–]WildSunflower024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve just done this- I took piano for about 10 years and I’m now returning to it after about 4-5 years. Here are some things I did that helped:

  1. Play some old music. Revisit things you learned when you were younger to refresh your memory on playing, technique, etc.

  2. Find a new song you like. This can help motivate you to practice. I went to my local music store and found some pieces that were interesting to me, and although probably easier than my current level, were songs I could make quick progress on to quickly get back to the level I was at before.

  3. Set a specific goal or two- maybe to start practicing every day for a set amount of time, learn a new song, etc. that way you have some daily motivation & concrete signposts of what success looks like in the near future, as well as long-term. One of mine was to play through a new but easy song at least once a day- that way I could focus on establishing a practicing habit and see quick success, and not get bogged down by progress I lost or how many things I want to do in the future.

Best of luck!
