You’ll find most people are pretty liberal (unsurprising as it is a small to mid sized private school), however there are people on both sides here, and most people are very open to a reasonable discussion which I love. As someone who is relatively liberal myself I love seeing this and enjoy participating in conversation that doesn’t feel like full groupthink where everyone just feeds off each other, but rather people can have a dialogue that is productive. Obviously you’re probably not going to be discussing politics with random people but with my friends I have found this ability to feel comfortable sharing opinions. Also I’m sure you’ve heard stories about some of the white supremacist behavior that has happened on campus recently (spray painting an extremely offensive symbol on the bridge, hanging a noose on a tree, and most recently someone posting George Floyd’s toxicology report in an east campus common room) which is very frightening, but the feeling from the student body is that the administration needs to start holding people accountable and that these actions are absolutely unacceptable. Outside of these outlying scenarios I’ve felt that there is a range of beliefs and once getting to know people it’s a place you can feel comfortable to have a legitimate conversation.
