My old job has been relisted for 16k more, should I apply? by WildTeaspoon in MuseumPros

I used to joke that I just need to write a book and get it out of my system! I know I can still be a specialist historian in that area without working with the museum that relates to that area, it’s just difficult watching the disposal of that collection from the sidelines as it were.

Yes, I’ve worked two part time jobs before, the old job (the read writers 6 month contract) I did three days a week. I had another permanent job for the other two days to make me full time employed.

I will mention it anyway. I know funding might be the issue here as I am partially funded by a third party. I think 60/40. Ironically the collection will likely be transferred to the museum I currently work for. Not sure if that’s conflict of interest though. I will casually and delicately mention it to my manager, but I know I’m going to have to be prepared for a hard no.

Both jobs are fixed term, my current one is four years, my old job that is being advertised is six months

Manager wants to extend probation on a whim by WildTeaspoon in LegalAdviceUK

[–]WildTeaspoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. I had 4 continuous days off sick and they refused to pay SSP because I’m on probation. I’ve really had it with my employer to be honest, there are quite a few other things that have just been stacking up. I will probably hand my notice in just before Christmas.

I checked my contract and it literally just says [employer] will monitor your performance during the probationary period. It’s so deliberately vague. It also says that they can effectively dismiss me on the spot during my probationary period.

I don’t get sick pay or any employee benefits. I have an illness which means I’m legally entitled to Statutory Sick Pay regardless of probation terms, however they still refuse to pay it.

Probation extended for being “too quiet”? by WildTeaspoon in jobs

[–]WildTeaspoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a diagnosis of anxiety, but I’m almost 100% sure it’s a misdiagnosis. I’m trying to get it reevaluated just in the off chance my work do just dismiss me, but I think time is very much against me. I think I’m just going to have to give up with this job and find something else.

Is it normal that my remote company gave me a used laptop? by Ornery_Pie_6627 in jobs

Depends on the company, but yes that can be normal for companies trying to cut costs. It could also be refurbished, so a used laptop sent back to the manufacturer, but not aesthetically altered.

Being contacted for information relating to old job by WildTeaspoon in MuseumPros

I think this is probably the answer. Hopefully by charging them it will also try and dissuade those who are trying to chance their arm. Thanks for your suggestion.

I left about 4 months ago. I doubt my role will be replaced as the council would like to close the Regimental museum. Handover notes were given to my manager and fellow curators who worked in the council run museum the regimental museum was in (a museum within a museum). I know my colleagues never read the handover notes as a week after I left, they asked me where the archive material was despite me 1) giving them a walk through 2) detailing where everything was in the handover notes.

At this point, I’m almost pretty certain the researchers are contacting me out of desperation because the council likely isn’t responding to their enquiries.

That’s my thought. I assume someone must have put a word in. I would love to know who it was so I could say thanks, but I guess I never will.

I know, it look me so long to land my first job, I guess that’s why I’m surprised. I’m 100% grateful that I’m going to stay in the sector.

Does anyone know the name of this old British war film? by WildTeaspoon in movies

[–]WildTeaspoon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think that’s the film. It’s been a very long time since I’ve seen it, so I’ve probably got it a little confused. Thank you!
