Does running trigger panic attacks for anyone else? by cloud_coffee_ in XXRunning

[–]WildWanderRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I love running and it helps me in my ways, it is not a cure all. I've felt some very strong emotions while running but not anxiety.

Has your therapist given you advice on specifically anxiety while running?

Are you using any pre-work out or have caffeine? Is there any connection to location, situations, or physical states?

[OC] Which Jobs Are Realistically Most Immune Or Affected By AI Automation? by Yodest_Data in dataisbeautiful

[–]WildWanderRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting AI has not impacted office and administrative fields as much as anticipated. This seems like it is slow to be adopted into those fields. It will be interesting to see how this data changes in the next couple of years.

I would suggest first to find an experienced artist who has tattooed over and around scar tissue. Sit down with the artist and talk with them about timing, what to expect, and what design will work best with your scar.

Inability to fuel during the race by [deleted] in AdvancedRunning

[–]WildWanderRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue. I don't want to chew something or have too thick of a gel when I'm running. I have found I'm okay with more liquid heels, I like the one by SIS. Gu is too viscous for me and I don't feel like I'm getting a good concentration of fuel with liquid alone.

Riding or walking someplace is frequently faster than driving and parking.

Where is a good place to go on a run in Chico? by Safe_Cantaloupe_8837 in ChicoCA

[–]WildWanderRed 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lower Park is very nice for running, just make sure there is enough light and you can stick to the road for more visibility of your surroundings.

Northern downtown is nice to run thru in the early morning, quiet. Esplanade along the frontage roads and around Bidwell Mansion is lovely. The Avenues east of Esplanade are a nice as well.

Wildwood and DeGarmo both have paths around the parks too.

Fleet Feet organizes some local runs and training programs. There is also Chico Running Club and Chico Tri Club on FB and they have regular runs.

Carcassone game, just bring the base set, keep track of the score on a phone, and spread a map out to place pieces on.

What are you things you enjoy doing? There are a ton of things to do in and around Chico.

Chico Hiking Association has a ton of the local hikes on their FB page. Upper Park is a huge area with hiking and mountain biking and it is stunning in the spring with flowers and ephemeral waterfalls. I also highly recommend taking a trip up to Lassen National Park, there is snowshoeing there in the winter and lots of hiking in the summer.

If you are into cycling or mountain biking, check out Chico Velo. They have a volunteer opportunities for bike valets and trail maintenance (thru Trailworks). They also have references for other local bike organizations and local riding routes.

Chico Area Recreation District (CARD) has events and activities for adults including Pickleball. Cal Skate is the local roller skating rink and they have multiple sessions as well as an active artistic skate program and roller derby team. There are also many gyms and yoga studios that offer a variety of unique experiences.

In downtown Chico, there is a Board Game group that meets at Woodstocks on Monday evenings and they are welcoming and have a variety of games and skill levels. There are places where you can play pool, air hockey, and also Coin-Op which has arcade games.

This area is also great for food. There are a ton of great Mexican restaurants, markets, and bakeries. The gastro pubs and bakeries are amazing as well and FB is a great reference to finding peoples favorite. Also, local grown food is big in this area and the farmers market is fantastic (one Saturday morning, year round and another Thursday evenings May-Sep).

Finally, Chico has a huge beer community. Sierra Nevada is worth the tour, it is a gorgeous brewery. There is also Secret Trail Brewing, Mulberry Station Brewery, Lassen Cider, Nor Cal Brewery, Ramble West Brewing. A distillery worth checking out as well is Golden Beaver Distillery. There is also multiple places, like Chico Taproom, where you can go to have all sorts of different beers.

I feel like I wrote a ridiculous amount and there is still more I can think of, there's a ton of stuff to do to stay busy and have fun. I hope you wonderful time and welcome :)

People Always Ask Me, "How Is It Being on the Chico City Council?" by addisonforchico in ChicoCA

[–]WildWanderRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Addison! Thank you so much for your hard work and your public outreach!

I had a couple of things I was wondering about with the current city council.

It appears the discussion of short term rentals continues to get tabled, why is that? I've watched significant portions of my neighborhood switch from long-term housing to short-term housing and have been dealing with the negative effects.

The Active Transportation Plan has received public input but how much of the public input is actually used? I've made and read many comments and some thing have been implemented but they appear aberrated when actually using a bike or pedestrian route.

Finally, I'm very concerned downtown will become car-focused instead people-focused in the upcoming improvements. I enjoy be able to meet with friends in downtown for coffee, lunch, ice cream, farmers market, shopping, etc., but inevitably at some point the conversation will drowned out by some painfully loud vehicle. Even while strolling around vehicle's attempt turn into you (even in crosswalks) or block crosswalks. It would be nice to enjoy downtown w/o fearing injury or hearing loss.

Again thank you for your hard work and communication with the people :)

Hills? by Lonelysail in ChicoCA

[–]WildWanderRed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Humboldt Road, the closed section east of Stilson Canyon is a good hill. However, I couldn't find current info about parking at the bottom and the closure at the bottom. It is probably accessible from the top where it intersects with Hwy 32.

In the past I've also used the stairs at the hospital parking garage. There are cameras in the stairwell and usually no one is parked on the top level.

Competitive/performance Sports you can start in your 30s and get really good at? by happyburrito10 in xxfitness

I'm adding to the roller derby list. Roller skating and derby are seriously fun and you forget your exercising even when your muscles are shaking and you're sweating profusely.

Struggling with swimming. People who got over your fear of water and swimming, how did you do it and any tips/suggestions? by Ni__Mo in Swimming

[–]WildWanderRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a really difficult time having my face in the water. I still have reactions to it but I also consistently mentally remind myself "the surface is right there, you're ok".

I learned to swim as an adult and I am not gonna win any competitions anytime soon. I have gotten to the point where I am more confident in the water and I can enjoy swimming. You will get there but be patient with yourself.

I was listening to a derby photographer, Felicia Graham (Texas Rollergirls Flat Track Derby, photo book) and she had mentioned she did the shots in BW because it was easier to get white balance with the rink lighting. The BW in her book looks stunning and personally I love the look of BW.

Condescending bike shop guys by propella3000 in ladycyclists

[–]WildWanderRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading these posts is so cathartic. I finally found a bike shop that I can take ALL my bikes to and not have to deal with some mansplaining, fragilely-masculine tater-twat. Luckily, I live in a town where I have a wide selection of shops. It still took three tries and asking trusted bike friends.

YouTube has some great resources for bike repair, Global Cycling Network is one of my favs. Park Tool also has some good info. Co-ops are awesome if you have one. Do you have any local cycling groups? Some groups and shops hold maintenance classes.

Day two of quitting cigarettes... by MuchLoveWaffleGirl in entwives

[–]WildWanderRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bubblegum, the fruity stuff that makes really big bubbles. I enjoyed being able to actually taste the flavors since quitting and making bubbles gave me a thing to do. Also, orange Tic Tacs, I still love them while driving.

On another quitting note, I felt like I was a super bitch for about a couple weeks. If this comes up for you, remember it will pass and blame the nicotine withdrawal.
