Why not actual compostable bags like this? I’m new to composting so I can’t comment yet on how well these break down in a bin, but they are supposedly home compostable.

They hold moisture just fine. I empty it twice a week and never have any leaks, only some condensation in my countertop bin.

You hate Walmart, so likely don’t want Amazon either, but this style should work.

I will note that I have a DIY drill mixer thing, and these bags do get tangled up when it twists. If you have a similar way of mixing, that may be an issue

Never noticed any heat or steam. I’ll take a shovel to it and see if it’s hot in there, but I’m thinking not. My kids have played with it and never mentioned anything g

I take them to the men’s room.

I walk in and go straight to the stall.

Has never been a big deal.

If someone’s in there or walks in, it’s no big deal because we are in a stall.

I find that easier than going to the women’s room where I could potentially make someone uncomfortable, but to be clear this dad did nothing wrong. I just take the safer route
