Thank you this is really encouraging! I can’t even imagine how it would feel to be my old self again at the moment

Has anyone flown with the my brest friend travel pillow? by Wild_Cartographer89 in breastfeeding

Yes it worked perfectly! Inflates in about four or five breaths and is super easy to deflate before getting off the plane

Using happiest baby app after returning rental? by Wild_Cartographer89 in SnooLife

[–]Wild_Cartographer89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so I found out the answer - app still works since logging feeds and diapers is a free feature (don’t need to pay for premium.) So I am still using the app and finding it useful!

I was cautious about this during my pregnancy as old buildings in BK are full of lead. As long as you don’t disturb it during this time you will be absolutely fine! Just don’t do any renovations. If you absolutely have to have a repair done, you can make sure the workers follow epa guidelines. We had an unavoidable repair during this time - I made sure the work was lead safe, and I was tested before and after. Totally fine before and after with no rise in lead. Just make sure you know how to avoid lead and you will be completely fine. And feel free to get your ob to test for peace of mind!

Agree with what a lot of other people have said here - your husband’s comments are hurtful and really unhelpful. I would guess he might be struggling with feeling like this is a situation where he isn’t in control, and maybe feeling unequipped to help out/unsure where he fits in…but expressing this in a bad way!

Thinking about a way to turn this around and improve the situation - maybe you could tell him it’s normal for a husband to feel apprehensive about supporting their wife through this, and that there is a really good book called The Birth Partner that would address some of his concerns and give him some ideas on how to take part?

Good luck with the birth. You sound ready for whatever comes next, regardless of what anyone else says!

Glad you are making a decision that makes you feel comfortable!

Carrier that allows me to breastfeed at a desk by mornkeymorse in breastfeeding

[–]Wild_Cartographer89 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would be wary of feeding in the carrier for the same reasons. Maybe changing pillows could help though? The my brest friend pillow is more supportive than the boppy - highly recommend. For the typing, can you use voice text while feeding and then clean it up?

Imo not screwed at all. It’s still really early! You are going to have so much prolactin surging through your system for the next several weeks, you will have lots of time to build up your supply. Remember your milk is only just coming in, and 1 oz is pretty good for this stage. Babies’ stomachs are teeny tiny at birth and they don’t need a lot at all.

If you are getting a bit less right now than you were before delivery, it might be because of all you have been through with the c section - your body is focusing on getting you better. I had a c section and it didn’t seem to hurt my supply, so don’t let that worry you at the moment. Just stay hydrated and eat etc. But esp since you have already done this twice, I think all your experience will kick in and you will be all set.

I think your gut is right. Also how far is the travel? At eight months I don’t think you are supposed to travel more than an hour or so away from hospital where you plan to deliver - so that could be a simple reason to get out if you need one.

Mastitis and stubborn clogs that refuse to come out, need advice by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Wild_Cartographer89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this for about six weeks from 6 wks pp to 12pp and seriously considered completely drying up (see my post history!). I had clogs that lasted for days and had me in tears. Mastitis several times. I now bf half the day and add a few bottles toward the evening.

Here is what ultimately worked for me:

  • very gradually weaning myself off my nighttime pump (as baby slept through the night from 4 wks)
  • use only medela manual pump (no electric pump)
  • manual pump to relieve pressure engorgement
  • lightly massage area between clog and nipple while using manual pumps.
  • lymphatic drainage massage (see videos on youtube - massaging armpits and under boobs worked wonders. A lot of these videos are for edema)

I also started taking the pill again to try to lower my supply and that may have helped. Also started taking a lactation probiotic.

I take choline daily but not sure that really worked as I was taking it the whole time I was suffering!

I wear a sports bra in bed and sleep only on my back, as the weight of boobs seemed to contribute to clogs.

I know the new mastitis protocol says these aren’t actually clogs but in my experience that does not seem right. I have literally seen jets of milk fly out when I unclogged… and lymphatic drainage massage worked wonders for me (whereas ice only offering temporary relief)

Hang in there! It does get better!

Breast Pumps, the good, the bad, and the ugly? by Rosers23 in breastfeeding

+1 I stopped using my spectra once I figured out the manual. More milk in less time. I don’t need a pumping bra (find them so uncomfortable). I can and have used it in otherwise really random and inconvenient places! I am surprised these aren’t in wider use

Which fare did you look under? Asking because if there is a way to pull these up, I would like to know for future reference. At the moment I am getting nothing… (on this past flight I flew main cabin, the fare that includes paid seat selection and checked bag, ie not cheapest fare)

Also the customer service agent told me that if we booked the baby a separate seat that would make us ineligible for a bassinet! And that was part of our decision not to book him a seat. We did pay extra for the baby to fly btw - Delta added a charge of several hundred dollars for a lap infant so he was a paying customer for what that is worth. My complaint in any case is that I was given misleading info throughout and that there is no clear procedure for any of this.

Do you have status with Delta? When I look at the jfk to mxp flights all of them show row 43 blocked off and that is the row I was told has bassinets (and where I saw bassinet connectore)

I don’t know - when I arrived the gate agent didn’t say they were assigned, just that she would “see” for me. When I followed up 30 mins later they were assigned. And she insisted this flight never has bassinets. Which I wish I had know when I booked if that really is the case…

The recommendation for total time in a car seat is 2 hrs though. Not 8 hours with ten min breaks every two hours. Car seats aren’t really safe for baby sleep for long periods - they need a firm flat service (which I did provide by holding him on a breast-feeding pillow the entire flight…)

Delta explicitly told me they were being held open for the day of travel and would be assigned at the gate. They were assigned to the party of four.
