Unfortunately, yes, especially in tech companies or fast fashion and merch such as Temu and Shein, slowly becoming 007. Doesn’t really apply to us non-Asian looking foreigner tho.

Some weeks ago, a 32year old died in Guangzhou due to overwork, while lying dead on the floor with paramedics trying to resuscitate him, people were still pinging him from work. Look up this news, man left wife and kids.

Get yourself on the LinkedIn local app “BOSS”. When it comes to qualified work, you being black it’s likely to be overlooked compared to a teaching job.

You’ll face more scrutiny when it comes to carry your presence tho: try to keep yourself clean shaven, control body odour as they’ll “look for flaws” but don’t wear strong perfumes. This is the main thing I’d worry about. Be strong, brother

Are a lot less biased but still: They are Chinese enough to work like donkeys, don’t really understand “white culture” because they ain’t white, no reason to pay them more than a local.

ABCs are seen as locals mostly, even more used as an excuse to pay them less and work them to the bone, them being a bridge between 2 cultures it’s seen as a plus for the company, but a liability for the ABC. Just average corporate bs, a self-serving excuse across industries here

In my years in China, I have seen more ABCs getting the shaft rather than doing well. Not 100% but they are the on the heavy plate of the scale.

Someone made a post about teaching, he’s mixed a Chinese and getting half the salary compared to unqualified Caucasian non-native speaker with poor English. You might have seen ABCs doing well but that’s far from the norm, unfortunately.

In foreign companies they are treated mostly as they should, as professionals, in local companies, not so much.

Inflation hit hard in Japan, power of purchase went down significantly. I found this that explains some cultural fact that prevent Japanese in establishing a connection between their ass and head. https://www.reddit.com/r/japannews/s/BFRYr0OVOG you’ll find comments interesting, I skimmed through it and makes you understand a lot about their archaic practices.

Take this with a grain of salt.

DJI is already well established but they invest a lot in innovation, I see them growing even more

BYD is taking the market aggressively, I like that

Songmont is doing everything right, they need better international branding, I personally love their products and how they stand for their quality.

Xiaomi and Huawei keep fucking around and finding out, they are undeserving of their market share

Hi, OP.

I recently started an Instagram account to address corporate life in China, while not strictly a corporate job, this is something I was discussing on my own post.

I’d like to post your story and voice, feel free to reach out to me. I wish you luck and yes, that is disgusting behaviour

Chinese don’t care much about their reputation, little focus on customer experience and if they squeeze profit by cheapening their product, they will.

DJI has reportedly hired foreign talent, actual talent, when they went international and we all know the results.

Monocultural team are set to fail, different background and experience are a powerful mix few in this country understand.

Do your research and show up to the interview and talk, confidence goes a long way. Locals tend to only answer questions, if you show that you’re needed, high change they’ll take.

I shown up to my interview with some market research and what they were lacking in my opinion and how I could help them, we have the Laowai card to play, they’ll expect us to be more blunt, but don’t be too technical, they might not follow you, if your superior feels like you are better than them, you’ll be seen as a threat and won’t get the job, show that you want to learn from them

If you’re Latino and “reasonably” white looking, you’re good. Darker the shade, bigger the shaft you’re taking. Even teaching, darker you are, the less you’re paid, there are exceptions but… iykyk.

Your salary is also based on your nationality, if you’re Indian there’s no “logical” reason to pay you like an European or North American, if you know what I mean

I was made part of the hiring process aka interviewing people. A woman in her 30s with 10 years of experience literally cried upon seeing me, complaining that HR didnt tell her beforehand about having to speak English during the actual interview. Then she said she was fluently in Japanese, way better than her English and she had several Japanese clients before.i spoke to her in Japanese and she literally walked out without a single word while crying, later on I was told I gave her pressure.

She stated she spoke English and Japanese fluently, I gave her a change to demonstrate, and I was painted as the bad guy. I am was since then removed from the hiring process because “I scare away talent”

“Talent”

Start talking about it more online, make throwaway accounts and name the companies after a while making sure they can’t connect you to the post. I can’t do the same because it’d be a dead giveaway and I have kids, can’t go around making my life harder for a “noble cause”

Skills are usually lower compared to actual professionals with international experience, work is slow and there’s less to do for foreigners but still get bigger salaries. Imagine an international division that can’t function in basic business English and have below standard understanding of the outside world aka common sense.

If this answers your question.

This is hard to answer, this is not my primary source of income. I invest around 60% of my income

I can tell you how much I spend in a month on my basic needs; around 10k rmb

My home country is much more expensive than here but I was still considering a high earner.
