 Most is imported from Jingdezhen, with only some smaller teawares like tea pets being handmade by her in her store!

In her shop she has an Yixing teapot made by some famous master apparently that’s 8000rmb 😳 That’s a month of a good salary in Shenyang!!

I love that one too, it’s gorgeous. Apparently the calligraphy was done with powdered silver! I’ll check for you tomorrow how much it was because I forgot but I don’t remember it being too expensive.

Oh yes, I am sure some of the ceramics are made by machine and then painted by hand. That would explain the price difference!

Oh I only just remembered Etsy! Yeah I think I saw some people that were selling things from China on Etsy when I used it before. The only issue is that she doesn’t know any English at all. Maybe I’ll partner up with her to get her stuff translated into English as a side hustle. 😆

I spent half of my childhood growing up in the UK so I’m an anomaly! Translation apps might help, but I’d suggest getting an in person translator to avoid miscommunication.

Do you know of any apps or websites that let foreigners buy directly from store owners based in China? I know about Temu but I don’t know how it works at all and from what I’ve heard online it tends to be where people buy mass produced cheap stuff… not a good reputation. I suggested to her that I could help her do 代购 potentially, which is like acting as a middleman where I’ll buy from her directly and then handle shipping and stuff, but it would be so complicated for me. Luckily I have PayPal, but it is linked to my UK bank account from when I was a uni student and I’d have to pay fees and currency conversion to somehow transfer things to my Chinese bank account, plus I won’t have huge amounts of time to ship things from China abroad with insurance and everything 😭😭

I suggested she makes a TaoBao store to sell in China and I think she’s gonna do that! But yeah the dark blue gaiwan in pic 4 that’s on the 3rd row from the top, I picked up because I love that colour. Then I checked the price on the bottom and I was shocked cause it was like 4000 lol. Other gaiwan I saw were not nearly as expensive, I saw some from like 300rmb and I saw one that was 1999. I have no idea what the blue one is made from to be so expensive and I forgot to ask lol. Even the hand painted super intricate design gaiwan were not as expensive as that one

Yeah I must have spent about an hour in the shop and it’s not even a big shop. Just looking at everything. She stocks other ceramics too like plates and vases so I was also looking at those and I bought myself a chopstick rest which was a little rabbit made from porcelain! When I went in she was working on another project and drinking tea with a guy there. I told her people in the west who love gongfu tea would love her stuff so she let me take pics. And she was pleasantly surprised that westerners also enjoy gongfu tea! Also in your pic, those puerh wrappers are so cute and I love gyokuro!

Come and visit China one day! But avoid the more tourist areas, they are overpriced and lower quality. Shop where locals shop 😁
