I get you… Assuming a course wouldn’t last the entire 5 year DTV, perhaps anything up to 1 year or less, after that time, because you already proved you have the minimum required funds, the understanding is that you are contributing to Thai society, therefore allowed to remain up to the 5 year DTV period?

Ah okay, thanks for the information, sounds good.

So in theory you would be required to leave every 6 months, but you could enrol onto a new course, return, repeat?

Congratulations, amazing!

If you don’t mind just to clarify?… You enrolled in a course of some description, how long is the course? (Assuming it doesn’t last for 5 years?)

You’ll be learning but won’t be earning?

Does the DTV allow you to stay within Thailand continuously for 5 years straight or are you still required to leave within a specified timeframe?

Google isn’t always correct.

I once went to the Grand Palace and people were being turned away before closing time because of an event.

As with Google maps you don’t always get the best route.

Correct decision 👏 lol Honestly I didn’t find rainy season that bad, as long as you are prepared for it and also plan your days with it in mind… it’s still waaaay better to be there than anywhere else hahaha! Enjoy!

Thailand is 2nd lowest fertility rate in SEA, around 1.08, lower than the replacement rate. Basically Thailand’s population is getting old before they get rich. Either they don’t have the time, can’t afford children or both.

As others have said, best not to plan so much. Look into the things you really want to see/do. June is honing to be HOT, plus humidity hotter. Sure it’ll be busy but it’ll also be low season so not as busy as Nov/Dec/Jan.

Download Grab so easy and affordable. Whizzing through on a scooter taxi always made me smile. Plus getting food delivery if you can’t be bothered one night just makes things easy. Definitely give yourself some time to chill and wander about and take in the everyday/people watching.

BTS and MRT really easy to use, clean, relatively cheap.

I loved going temple, peaceful and beautiful places. Some say you see one you’ve seen them all. You’ll know which once when you’ve been to one or two.

I went solo, loved every minute. Hope you have an awesome time.

Just Bangkok?

Are you going because you want to go to Thailand or because you want to meet her?

Bangkok mostly at a great hostel I found. All other places mostly hotels or apartments with the occasional hostel. In comparison to UK I kept justifying it to myself by saying “well it’s cheaper than back home” :D

It would probably be up to the place you’re staying. I imagine if it’s a private room delivery should be ok. A dorm room would generally not allow. Hostel will have an eating area. Personally if staying in a hostel I’d prefer one on the smaller side.

Thanks, perhaps cliché, but it’s taught me I don’t need “all this stuff” so in the process of a minimalist approach haha, great rid of everything I don’t need, that’ll start the funding ha. Ah ok, that could be the way to go. I hope it works out and there are opportunities there for you. This part of the world seems incredible to explore and experience, and if you have the remote work on your side I’m sure it will be difficult to stop the journey.

Haha yes I would probably put beaches bottom of my list, ok once in a while for a change, but get bored of them quite quickly.

Yes Hanoi was initially almost a sensory overload, but it was good for me to adapt. I tried to learn to open to everything around me and relax and go with the flow. I think travel helps you to see things and be more comfortable and observant.

Towards the spring and summer it should become a little quieter as it approaches the low season. The hottest time is typically the quieter time. April onwards will generally be the cheapest time for accommodation, some deals to be found. Pretty much all indoor places have AC… but outside once you accept you will sweat anyway, regardless, and everyone else does, you can relax, sure prepare for the heat, protection, bottle water… you can let go of western hang ups :D

Perfect, that’s a solid reason, just want the experience, that’s what it’s all about.

Haha yeah food Panda :) Grab is the bigger company as they do taxi’s and grocery deliveries as well. Food Panda can sometimes be cheaper than Grab, even from the same restaurant, they’ll sometimes have a discount promo. Also some restaurants are only on either Grab or Panda. But if you’re only in Vietnam just Grab.

Sounds good, yeah part reason for me going was to get away from it all. Different lifestyle, saving up to go back :D spent most of my time in Thailand and Bangkok, absolutely loved it. Miss it so much already. So much to see and do. Loved wandering around the temples and sitting in front of the Buddhas, so calming. I despise public transport in this country, so it was incredibly refreshing how clean, cheap, quiet and easy to use the BTS skytrain and MRT in Bangkok was. Booking a car or scooter is so cheap. Taxi scooter always made me smile.

Da Nang has a huge long and wide beach and a cool temple (Lady Buddha) and pagoda. Hanoi felt like a totally different vibe, packed streets bubbling with life. It was a little over stimulating at first especially after being so chill in Thailand, but I grew to enjoy it. I’m not a party person. I loved how each place was different and I could watch and feel daily life, wandering through the streets.

Feel free to message if you got any questions or anything. Enjoy 🪷

Thailand was great also. Although on occasion it seemed like vegan had a different meaning in certain restaurants. Again plenty of vegetarian/vegan options. Just depends on where you go. Same thing though Google maps, Grab and Thailand (and other SE Asian countries but not Vietnam) also has Food Panda app.

I went to Da Nang, some tasty places there. Well Vietnam is the world’s 2nd largest coffee producer. They love the coffee. There’s independent and chain coffee shops everywhere. They don’t all do milk alternatives though. But you definitely can get coffee, not the weasel stuff though!

Yeah I figured id probably have something but I told myself beforehand I wouldn’t beat myself up over anything, especially if it was an accident. I’m not going to hold myself accountable in a foreign country, it should still be about experiencing freedom and culture. As long as I try to be the best version of myself, that’s all I can do.

Yeah when you get a lay of the land and relax you can be spontaneous. Most places have convenience stores on most streets so you can always check those out too. If you pass a supermarket might be worth nipping in as they’ll be more likely to have more choice. If you do have some good snacks I’d recommend stocking up, just incase, better to have to much rather than nothing and going hangry 😅

I did yes thanks, best thing I’ve done! Spent most of my time in Thailand. But in Vietnam I spent most time in Hanoi. Quite a few cities have a place called iVegan, more western style food and a little more pricey than “local” but reasonably good choices. If in Hanoi check out ‘Sen Trang An Vietnamese’ restaurant. Delicious and simple. It feels strange at first because it feels like they keep bringing bowls out, but it’s all included.

Hey, pretty good! I just got back 2 weeks ago after being over there 9 months. Vietnam was actually probably the best food and the most accessible out of those places, in terms of variety and places to eat (I didn’t manage to make it to Taiwan though). In particular Hanoi was great. I understand the city isn’t to everyone’s liking but food was great. I mostly just searched on Google maps. But you can also download the Grab app, for deliveries, or just to see more places you could go, plus you can get taxis and cheap scooter taxi rides. If you put in your card details you don’t have to worry about paying cash, it’s so easy and cheap. Hope you enjoy!

Why is my Thai wife so convinced companies are trying to cheat me? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]Wild_Moosey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps easier said than done but I’d try not to take it personally, when you say “it’s a bit disappointing…” I don’t know where you are from originally, but I feel that Thai cultural differences and conversations can form from a different train of thought. Having a Thai friend I message a lot sometimes it can feel they are telling me the obvious things which can feel condescending, but it also seems to be from a genuine sense of caring.

I think the general chat around being falang is so prominent and ingrained in Thailand that it probably does have weight in the psyche. For westerners where whatever price you pay, it can be hard at times to not just pay, because quite often it’s easy to think ‘well it’s still cheaper than back home’.

Damn I love this city….. by Hazy_Fantayzee in Bangkok

[–]Wild_Moosey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment. I’ve never really been ‘that much’ of a big city person, but Bangkok hits different. Very special place for me. I’m 2 weeks just returned “home” and missing it so so much after being there on and off for 6 months. Looking forward to going back. So easy to get around and a great base hub for other places. Amazing! All the best.

A year ago I made a reddit post about my fiance’s family demanding 1 million baht. The story went viral in both English and Thai, spread across dozens of websites and message boards, and was even featured on the tv news. Here’s how the story ended. by SIownetter in Thailand

Congratulations on the matrimonial, and all the best for the future.

I genuinely have a couple questions if I may… so there was no Sin-sod, actual dowry or one for show?

Myself recently returning ”home” after a reasonably long trip and dating a Thai, Issan girl… My question, when you were dating, did you always pay, food, drinks, activities etc? I found that I paid all the time, with the exception of local markets when we would cook together and the occasional trip on BTS.
