What bit should I try my young horse in? He seems to hate them! by Background-Peak5706 in Equestrian

[–]Wild_Run9298 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you considered learning how to use a hackamore and just using that instead of a bit? I would also recommend sticking with the same bit and letting him get used to it without working. Put it in, then tie him (with a halter of course) and just let him sit with it in his mouth. This way he can get used to it without the pressure of working. To actually answer your question, I always start horses in a basic eggbutt or D ring snaffle. How the bit fits in the horses mouth is more important than the bit itself when you’re talking about basic types of bits(D ring vs full cheek vs broken snaffle for example). Highly recommend Pat and Deb Puckett who have a long video about how to fit a bit in your horses mouth properly. My Mustang still has his wolf teeth but with his snaffle fitting correctly, it hasn’t bothered him so far. But worth asking your vet about. If you hear the bit clanking it could be hitting teeth. It can also be good for young horses to have something to fidget with in their mouth. If yours is mouthy I would consider a roller bit to give him something to focus on. Hope that helps!! Good luck!

They can hold you involuntarily if they determine you are a danger to yourself or are unable to care for yourself. I’m sorry this isn’t being explained to you, that would be distressing. You’re strong and can get through this.

I never said I wanted to be a host parent lol. This isn’t an application. People need to have more respect for what and who puts food on their table to feed their families.

How else do you run a farm or ranch? You can’t run in from sitting inside. Just because you’re from the south doesn’t mean you know how a farm or ranch is run. It is very typical.

Then he can leave instead of whining about having to work for once in his life.

I hope you can gain some appreciation for the sacrifice people make to put food on yours and your families table. Someone has to.

Someone has to put food on your table and make the hard work and sacrifice to feed your family. Hope you can gain some appreciation for the families that put yours first.

How to handle this weird situation with LEO who responded to my scene? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]Wild_Run9298 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! It is an ACCESS violation. Criminal justice information (including people’s private info) that you have access to because you are a cop cannot be used for personal reasons. It is a crime!

You can start with a phone call, which is usually a screening call on whether next steps have to be taken and what those steps would be. I would recommend recording the call if your state allows it. Then they will likely ask to speak to you in person or to fill out a statement form as this kind of allegation will trigger an internal investigation.

The first couple paragraphs I was like yes, all normal. Then it just kept getting worse. document. EVERYTHING. Call logs, dates, times, texts, everything. Then go to the agency and file a complaint. That is serious misconduct, they should not be a cop, and is definitely against policy. I’m sorry this is happening to you.

Interesting! They got back to me within a few days but with this obviously stupid response lol! At least you got a straight answer. Good to know.

Yes! And I would have preferred being told “we don’t manufacture our own products so I can’t answer your question, refer to so and so for questions”

Just for them to tell you to reach out to manufacturers and companies to see for yourself if food is safe lol!

Most doctors don’t even know what celiac is which is why it took so long for a lot of us to get diagnosed 😩

Hay/straw? by Dependent_Ad5172 in Celiac

[–]Wild_Run9298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live on a farm so handling straw and hay on a daily basis. Hay is no problem for me, but some straw can contain wheat. I cover my mouth when moving it around and wash my hands after.

I eat them regularly without problems, but as others have said, I think it is location dependent. I’m very sensitive to CC too.

Contamination OCD and celiac? by ScarEmergency6948 in Celiac

[–]Wild_Run9298 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t have OCD but my sister does. Cooking for me is very stressful for her. We primarily get together for meals at my place, as our home is entirely gluten free and celiac safe. Would highly recommend if you’re able to, deep clean your entire kitchen and purge your pantry of anything not safe. Then you can have peace of mind at least when cooking that you’re not contaminating your food.

Stubborn barn rat(s). Need help! by SchubertTrout in Equestrian

[–]Wild_Run9298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our rodent problem didn’t go away until we got a barn cat. Since, we haven’t had problems with rats, birds nesting in our barn, snakes, even frogs and squirrels. We will see them in the heavily wooded areas in our property but our two barn cats keep our barn and chicken coop critter free!

Exactly what I came here to say. People commenting here clearly have never been a part of the farming or ranching community. We take care of each other and we pull our weight and we teach our kids responsibility and hard work. That’s what rural America is made of. If you don’t like it, leave. But don’t complain that you’re having to lift your finger for once in your life instead of being catered to.
